I gawk and care for a movie like this cause it’s fun and arresting, that’s it!
Okay, I know this is going to be a highly disputed conception, but I reflect this movie is very, very safe. Astronomical, I’d even daresay. And I am a Godzilla fan. I appreciate the Gargantuan Guy from his early masterworks to his campy mid-period to his unusual thrilling outings.

Admittedly, this is not the same Godzilla. But Godzilla himself is a product of the 50s fascination with giant monsters, and this movie is really unprejudiced an homage to all those frail, tremendous monster movies. Anyway, I don’t observe why the universe isn’t mountainous enough for two Godzillas.
A lot of fans hated this honest for the plan. But Tristar had to compose a current version. The stale version would’ve flopped in America. In fact, Godzilla 2000 came out about a year later, and it did abominable. So where were those so-called fans when he really needed them? I submit that there really aren’t that many Godzilla fans. There’s plenty of people who claim to be, but do they really like him or these types of films? Doesn’t seem like it.

Onto the movie. First there’s Godzilla. He’s a terrific special enact. Some people say he doesn’t scrutinize steady. He looks comely darn impressive to me. Realism is a rather droll complaint when you’re talking about a giant lizard running through Unusual York.
The yarn is deceptively simple. You could boil it down to Army vs. Monster, but there’s a creativity here that gets overlooked. The characters (all of whom are well-developed especially considering none are the exact star) are all likable. Their motivations are believable. And their account arcs are solidly connected to the central conflict in a arrangement that doesn’t seem forced.
The action sequences are incredible. I like to deem of them as repugnant versions of mountainous kung fu showdowns. Godzilla isn’t invulnerable in this film, and so when he fights helicopters, rockets, and submarines, I actually felt suspense, even though I knew he wasn’t going down until the destroy of the movie.
The location of Godzilla’s young gives a nice excuse for some human-scaled action. The pacing is expertly handled. At two hours, there’s level-headed a lot crammed in here. The acting is ample. Jean Reno’s French military agent is beautifully understated. And the final demolish of Godzilla is both tragic and satisfying.
I don’t esteem the last shrimp bit, but to me it’s not so worthy an advertisement for a sequel as a wink to those “THE Raze? ” titles at the destroy of those stout old-fashioned movies.
Boy, this is a long review. I guess I’m unprejudiced trying to obtain a case for this underrated and much-maligned film. Personally, I mediate the novel Grand Guy would cherish it. Although I’m distinct his version would demolish a dinky different.

Superheroes are everywhere in entertainment, from silly books to movies. But few manage to be as vivid, geeky and well-written as “Heroes,” a solid comic-book style TV series that explores the repercussions of several “ordinary” people who gawk that they have unique — and sometimes unsafe — powers.
It opens with Mohinder Suresh (Sendhil Ramamurthy) reflecting on the human quest for knowledge — even knowledge that we shouldn’t have — correct before learning that his father has been killed, possibly murdered. Suresh’s dad believed that “special” people were cropping up, worthy like in X-Men.

And we are introduced to the “heroes”: stripper Niki (Ali Larter) harbors a secret sad side, cheerleader Claire (Hayden Panettiere) heals from any injury, Japanese Dilbert Hiro (Masi Oka) can bend time and position, Senatorial candidate Nathan (Adrian Pasdar) is able to wing, his brother Peter (Milo Ventimiglia) can copy others’ powers, a cop Matt (Greg Grunberg) can read minds, and junkie artist Isaac (Santiago Cabrera) sees the future. There are plenty of others that expose up, but these originate the ball rolling.
While Claire and Hiro leer the potential of their modern powers, Niki and her son try to elude some hired thugs –and demolish up overwhelmed by her dusky side, and framed. Unlike most shows about people with superpowers, “Heroes” isn’t really about the action or flashy battles. It’s half chronicle save-the-world-as-a-team epic, and half exploration of how loyal, ordinary people would react if they suddenly found out that they had superpowers, and how this would change — or NOT change — their lives.
The storylines are incredibly intricate and complex, since there are a dozen subplots and a lot of time recede, and plenty of hints at future events. The careful painting of all these storylines even further in two episodes, one of which shows the pre-Heroic lies of the characters (and how Syler became a murderous dismay), and another that shows what the future will be like if they don’t change it. It’s not a comely characterize.
These complex storylines are enhanced by lots of suspense and tightly directed action, and the makers always know how to throw in a frightening twist, such as a sword-carrying future Hiro showing up.. But there is also some poignancy, and very black humor from time to time (Claire waking up in mid-autopsy, or twisting her broken neck around) . Not to mention some ample, sometimes geeky dialogue (“Where did you learn all this? ” “X-men No. 143 when Kitty Pryde time travels!”) .
The actors are fair remarkable all salubrious — Larter gives a ample double performance, Zachary Quinto is a wonderfully zigzag villain, and Panettiere gives a excellent performance as a teen whose adolescence has a lot more than hormones in store. Masi Oka is the standout, though — his Hiro is sweet, endearing, geeky, daring, dismal, well-behaved, comic and thoroughly lovable. The scene where he arrives in Fresh York is adorable.
The “Heroes” are only starting their pace, and the first season of this geeky hit is a must-see for fans of bright sci-fi drama. And I doubt their dash is over…
I cannot emphasize enough that this is a stellar example of the power of character driven TV that follows a continuous plotline. If you’re looking for something that you can tune into and out of then this isn’t the point to for you. If, however, you’re looking for TV that is keen, spirited, and innovative then this is the present for you.
My preferred activity is normally reading and I don’t witness great TV because, frankly, I earn most TV subpar. Imagine my delight when I tuned into this note mostly out of curiosity and ended the season a diehard fan. I never missed an episode and looked forward to each unique one with big anticipation. I give most of the credit for this to where I feel the credit is due: the writing. The writers for this demonstrate did a masterful job of creating an appealing memoir arc and in giving the viewer impartial enough information to sustain him or her coming support for more. Answers to various questions were carefully dolled out over the course of the season so that the viewer never feels frustrated by too small tale dragged out over too powerful time. The pacing of this season was, in a word, perfect.
The other reason to be pleased this explain is the characters and, in particular, the endearing and astonishing Hiro. My popular of the characters, Hiro exemplifies that childlike joy that some people own when they spy they are particularly talented at something. He provides funny relief without being too comic and his earnestness perform him very lovable. His faithful friend and sidekick Ando is certainly not to be overlooked either and these two gain for a truly dynamic duo. As far as complexity goes, my vote goes to Claire who starts out struggling with typical teenager desires and grows and develops over the course of the season until she is easily the most sympathetic character.
Excellent writing and honorable characters would mean small without the acting to befriend them up, though, and this expose has that in abundance. All of the actors imbue their characters with life and believability so that even though the bulk of them are possessed of superhuman powers they composed seem like the kind of people who could be your nextdoor neighbors.
I simply can’t say enough superb things about this reveal. I assist everyone who enjoys really attractive, yarn and character driven, and thought-provoking television to contemplate this explain.

What an extraordinary film. Director Jonathan Levine’s attention to detail in making positive that every aspect of the film looks and feels like the 90′s really adds to the feel of the film. All of the actors work really well especially Sir Ben Kingsley and Josh Peck, who has a breakout performance in this film, showing that he’s got a future in this business. With laughable dialogue, nicely shot cinematography, and backed by an fabulous soundtrack, The Wackness is definitely a film to gaze this summer if you loved the 90′s.

The year is 1994, A high school teenager in Modern York who doesn’t have any friends but spends his time selling marijuana using his disguise as a person who sells ice in the park, while saving up all his money.
But all is not wintry in the life of Luke, his parents are having some financial problems and in effort of being evicted, his mind is on getting laid and losing his virginity and the only person he can communicate his emotions to is one of his clients, Dr. Jeffrey Squires (Ben Kingsley) . He wants some anti-depressants but Squires tells him to embrace his damage and more or less, he needs to procure a girlfriend and salvage laid.
Dr. Squires is not exactly a role model for Josh. He’s a product of the 60′s, loves doing cocaine and marijuana and somehow, is able to connect with Luke and provides him professional advice for drugs. But like Luke, his life is not at all going that spacious. His relationship with his wife Kristin is not at all going so astronomical and all they have is their memories of sex and doing drugs. Meanwhile, he notices that his step-daughter Stephanie (Olivia Thirlby, “Juno”) is getting closer to Luke. But realizes that it’s not like that she has for Luke, it’s unbiased a sexual prance.
Luke doesn’t have mighty experience with people, fancy and thus he discovers himself while hanging out with Stephanie. Dr. Squires as a father doesn’t want his stepdaughter to be around a drug dealer but at the same time, as his psychiatrist, he doesn’t feel that Stephanie is top-notch for Luke. But after their passionate time together, he develops feelings for Stephanie so strong that when he says the words of “I Fancy You” to her, Stephanie realizes that this scurry has gone so far and ends their romantic chase and all communication with Luke. Around that same time, Dr. Squires wife Kristin decides to leave her husband.
Both men are obviously heartbroken but somehow, they come by comfort in talking with each other and thus Luke and Dr. Squires accomplish a friendship that would interestingly introduce Dr. Squires to Luke’s world and for Luke, getting the needed therapy from his shrink. So, the account fair grand focuses on a young man (Luke) who is guided by an older man (Dr. Squires) but then the myth starts to shift of the younger guy guiding an older man.
VIDEO & AUDIO:
The film is featured in anamorphic widescreen ala 2:35:1 ratio. The film is shot in different parts of Tokyo but oviously scenes such as the Twin Towers had to be establish into the film. When you do a period part, especially if it’s 1994, with a busy city like Unique York, unless you have a tremendous budget, you got create do what with what you have. And thus a lot of the scenes are shot indoors but you do have some outdoor scenes with Luke and Stephanie at the beach or areas where Luke is dealing drugs.
As for audio, you pick up a English and French 5.1 Dolby Digital track and the film is primarily a dialogue driven film. But audio-wise, what makes this film shine is the fact that it’s 1994 and the venerable school songs, especially the hip-hop songs of that time are what comes blaring out your speakers. The DVD shines in its amount of special features offered. Included are:
* Commentary with Director Jonathan Levine and Actor Josh Peck – A very casual and frosty commentary and you learn necessary tidbits about the film. From Ben Kingsley giving advice to Josh, having to work with Mary-Kate in the amount of hours they had to work with her and how hard it was for Josh Peck to do his lovemaking scene with Olivia Thirlby. Levine and Peck have chilly and fun commentary talking about blunts, the music, it’s typically a commentary that is like hanging out with friends. Especially at the ruin when they talk about hanging out after the commentary and playing XBOX 360, you don’t hear that on director’s commentary, so it’s all capable.
* Keeping it Real: A Day in the Life of Writer/Director Jonathan Levine – For this eight itsy-bitsy feature, Jonathan Levine is traveling around the country and London to promote “The Wackness” at film festivals and interviews at radio stations. Jonathan is joined by the cast and his girlfriend, production designer Annie Spitz and his brother and his girlfriend.
* Time in a Bottle: Late the Scenes of The Wackness – An 18-minute featurette featuring behind-the-scenes on the making of the film. Levine explains that the film is not 100% autobiographical and a screenplay that was based on an understanding he had during filmschool. Also, featuring Levine’s staff and how they were able to glean that 1994 setting.
* The Luke Shapiro Explain Episode 1 & 2 – These are five cramped short episodes that were created for cable access featuring Luke Shapiro and his doorman Miguel. The first featuring Luke, Miguel (on keyboards) and his natty Tony. The second featuring Luke, Miguel (on keyboards) and a dancer.
* Deleted Scenes – This scene features four deleted/extended scenes from the film. The total amount of deleted scenes is about five minutes long featuring “Luke Works in Cap and Gown”, “Extended Squires Vacation”, “Squires in Stephanie’s Room” and “Dad’s Walkman Blueprint”.

I have to say that “The Wackness” is a ravishing frigid coming-of-age film and yes, there have been many of these type of movies but a definitely, recent film. Having the film area in 1994, having the main character as a drug dealer, having his psychiatrist as one of his clients and also a hardcore drug user and objective how everything unprejudiced comes together is quite delightful.
But the performances by Ben Kingsley and Josh Peck was well done. Two roles by talents that I would never seek coming. Ben Kingsley in so many serious roles in “Ghandi”, “Schindler’s List”, “Rules of Engagement” to name a few and then Josh Peck who stars in the Nickelodeon teen exhibit “Drake & Josh”, these two taking on roles so different and to watch them drinking alcohol and doing/dealing drugs, definitely it’s quite a bit of a surprise. But the unusual thing is that these two talents had enormous chemistry and everything worked out quite well.
And there are also a top-notch number of talent in this film. Olivia Thirlby did a grand job as Squire’s daughter Stephanie and Luke’s appreciate interest. Did a titanic job playing a sexual teen and then you have Mary-Kate Olsen as a pothead who honest makes out with Ben Kingsley. Famke Janssen as Dr. Squires sexy wife, Plan Man playing the character “Percy” as Luke’s supplier and considerable more.
There are impartial these exiguous moments in the film, from mannerisms to the petite things that a character does, it really makes this film seem quite realistic and accomplish it all work. Of course, the early 90′s nostalgia and the music plays a tremendous portion in the film. When Luke and Olivia are making fancy, R. And the DVD, objective makes you treasure the film even more with chilly commentary, the featurettes and more. It’s not all business-like and professional. You have Levine and Peck quite casual and as I mentioned in the commentary part, it’s like hanging out with a few friends and unprejudiced everyone having a helpful time.
Now granted, perhaps I may be a bit biased having grown up with the pop culture of the 90′s and hearing the songs and the style from those years boosting my appreciation for the film but for an indie film, I have to admit that the overall presentation was quite non-traditional. Again, there are a bunch of “coming-of-age” films out there but this one was really thinking outside of the box and instead of getting a “revenge of the nerd” happy-feel noble storyline, each of these characters have flaws but it’s all about discovering one’s self.
All in all, a solid DVD with a lot of humor, a lot of soul and all out fun!

My ex-wife could never understand why I (the unusual couch potato) could never find enough of nature shows on TV. It was rather difficult to clarify how inviting I found the natural world, especially from the comfort of my absorb living room. And admittedly, some of those WILD KINGDOM episodes were kind of hokey. (I remember how betrayed I felt when I found out that Jim and Marlin had staged most of the splendid scenes and hadn’t actually ventured to the wilds of Africa or the Amazon. Maybe they were fair couch potatoes at heart too.)
But French filmmaker, Jacques Perrin and crew are certainly the accurate deal. This breathtaking documentary is one that I would unqualifiedly recommend–to unbiased about anyone. Even my “ex” called recently to let me know that this film had left her in tears. I found it equally fascinating, and plainly I wasn’t alone. In fact, when I saw it the whole theater burst into applause at the extinguish.
As others have celebrated, the camera work on this film is panic fascinating. I have seen a few television docs with this kind of upclose footage before (I judge maybe the EYEWITNESS series? ), but none have sustained the conclude for very long, and most don’t pack the emotional wallop of this film.

Between this film and the new SPELLBOUND, I can peer an expanding market for documentaries–at least the more unusual and sharp ones. A vast film for family viewing, although younger children may be upset by the depiction of some of nature’s (and mankind’s) harsher realities. Otherwise, a good must-see in a sea of only purported must-sees.
This 2001 award-winning documentary by Jacques Perrin certainly is novel. It’s a plump 99 minutes of radiant cinematography of migrating birds, some species flying as far as 12,500 miles each year. There are a few captions, which remark the name of the bird and the amount of mileage they flit in order to migrate. There’s also some light background music as well as natural sounds, and a few sentences, spoken by the director. Other than that, it’s only the birds, whose migratory patterns were followed for three years.
At the beginning of the film there’s a disclaimer informing the audience that there were no special effects were musty. And so I sat there in wonder of how they were able to conclude all their shots. There’s the beauty of birds flying in formation, halt up shots of them feeding their young, competing with each other, stopping to rest. And there’s one ravishing shot of fleeing an avalanche.
There are different species filmed in different areas of the world. We search for the Artic Circle, the American Southwest, the industrial areas of Eastern Europe, the spacious oceans, the skyline of cities and even a shot as they glide past the World Trade Center and the Statue of Liberty. We also leer hunters whose gunfire brings sudden death as well as a bird with a broken sail who is attacked and devoured by crabs.

Here is nature, in all its power and glory. I sat there wide-eyed, taking it all in. And somehow, the petty concerns of my daily life seemed to tumble into perspective.
Some people might bag this film lifeless and I doubt if it will win wide distribution in theaters. It’s only playing in one theater in Unusual York and, even in this densely populated city, there was a very sparse audience. I’m overjoyed I was one of the people in that audience though because I loved every moment of the film would definitely view it again on DVD, especially if it had special features to record how the cinematography was done.

An academy award winner in 1969 in spite of having an X rating, this is one of those classic films that have old well. British director John Schlessinger, in his first American film, captured the gritty sordidness of Unusual York City, as it was in those days, with all its contrasts and inconsistencies. We survey a man sprawled on the sidewalk in front of an upscale jewelry store being ignored by passersby.
Jon Voight is cast as Joe Buck, a young man from Texas who comes to Current York with the dream of becoming a male prostitute. Dustin Hoffman is Rico Ratzo Rizzo, a the crippled street-wise hustler who first cons the young Texan and later befriends him. Together, these two outcasts create a weird bond as they struggle to survive on the streets of Unusual York. Joe Bucks’ memoir is told with flashbacks and surreal fantasy sequences, which seem unfocussed at times, but give us an belief of who he is. Ratzo, however, doesn’t need this kind of cinematographic background; his quirky character is all moral there.
The film is fleshy of memorable characters – Sylvia Miles as an aging Park Avenue woman with a thick Recent York accent who considers herself “one helluva aesthetic chick”, John McGiver, the religious nutjob who Joe Buck thinks will give him connections to rich women, and Brenda Vacarro who takes Joe home with her after a psychedelic party. There’s a memorable soundtrack too — “The Echoes of My Mind”. And then there’s the memorable conclusion which takes space on a bus headed for Florida.

I loved this video but it’s not for everybody. It’s downbeat and sunless and disturbing. But it says something about human nature and human connection. And it pictures a map of life that might not be advantageous but is a reality. Recommended.
1969 was an valid year for films.There was Anne of the Thousand Days, Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid,Hello Dolly,Easy Rider, the list goes on and on.Why is it then that this is the film that won the Academy Awards for best represent,director and screenplay of that year? (and was also given nods for both leading actors) . Perhaps the voters over 30 years ago could forsee that this movie would stand the test of time.

Joe has disturbing thoughts of the past, and Ratso has dreams of the future. When Ratso falls ill,though. it is Joe who must care for him. Their friendship moved us then and it will proceed you now.
The actors are phenominal in their performances. Hoffman current off his success in “The Graduate” shows us diagram wait on then how versitile he is, and Voight the newcomer proved his dramatic skills early on. The director John Schlesinger (Far From the Maddning Crowd) gives us a very realistic plan of life on the streets. At the time of it’s release this film was rated X (it is R now) and although there are some expicit scenes, the main focus is on the kinship of man.

The DVD(MGM) is a nice transfer. The colors ar vibrant. It is in the unusual widescreen format (with a standard format on the b side of the disc) It is in Dolby Digital 5.1 surround,not the best I have heard done on a film of this age, but calm profitable enough. The soundtrack is astounding with the stout song “Everybody’s Talkin”. No other special features on the disc itself but it does arrive with a booklet on the casting and making of the film, along with some other keen facts about it.
This would be an top-notch addition to any film collection.
