Mushishi continues its episodic format, but sterrs positive of the “Monster of the Week” formula by concentrating on character interaction rather than finding the magic bullet. This volume is every bit as attractive as the previous two, a testament to the superiority of the cel painted characters and backgrounds, and the special attention in making what tiny CG there is fit the overall peek of each scene.

Mushishi is all about setting the mood for each episode, and helping the viewer behold the effects of the mushi through the character’s eyes.

A must idea even for those modern to anime, and a must have for the collector.

Mushishi is an absolute masterpeice. It’s a fantasy/drama unlike any you’ll ever bag, and it’s my popular anime.

Each episode tells a different myth. I understanding I would be bothered by this, but I wasn’t. This adaptation is very faithful to the source material.

Mushishi evokes many different emotions while viewing it. Some episodes may have a really nice ending, while others can be really black. The fine background music amplifies these effects.

The music is very collected. Listening to the OST, something I do everyday, is the best scheme to abet stress. It really works wonders for the anime, especially when considering the quality of animation maintained throughout all 26 episodes.

I have yet to discover an anime series spicy as beautifully as Mushishi is. Everything was so well done, you can lisp they spent a lot of time translating this from the manga. The Mushi are reminiscent of the creatures you would score in a Hayao Miyazaki film, the Kodoma of Princess Mononoke perhaps. They have a determined magical aura, a mystifying presence, that makes you want to glance more and more of them.

I suggest you hold the DVDs, which advance in a very nice package with lots of extras. This is an anime which should be seen by anyone who enjoys anime.

With the exception of Diamonds Are Forever, there really hasn’t been a Bond that wasn’t at least a lot of fun:

THUNDERBALL: Probably Connery’s best performance as Bond. This one is “more Bond than Bond” and it works very hard to please and mostly succeeds. The final underwater battle could be trimmed a bit.

OHMSS: Okay, this is the greatest Bond movie ever. It is the only one that could really be called “yarn.” Certain, the other movies are astronomical, but this one feels story. Lazenby is the most physical Bond and in many ways the most likeable. The scene where he loses his wife at the waste is one of the best Bond moments ever.

LIVE AND LET DIE: This movie suffers from Diamonds-are-forever syndrome. LALD is gargantuan and exotic but it feels static (like DIAMONDS before it) . However, Roger Moore’s introduction as Bond is comic and sets the tone for his interpretation thereafter. Yaphet Kotto and his henchmen all fabricate terrific villains, too (especially Tee Hee) .

VIEW TO A KILL: This is more “classic Bond” than some are willing to admit. It is a lean, no-gadgets movie that is, in the best tradition of Moore, witty, enthralling and stylish. It is also the only Bond to film in America (San Francisco) and actually manufacture friendly consume of its American locations. A lovely swan song for Roger Moore’s 007.

OCTOPUSSY: Very frigid war. This movie also dishes up the most bizarre imagery since YOU ONLY LIVE TWICE. The beginning gives us a clown being chased by twin knife throwers deep inside the Eastern Bloc. This movie owes more to Indiana Jones than other Bonds and it is a lot of fun for it. Definitely a top notch Bond.

DIE ANOTHER DAY: Brosnan is broad as Bond (though he doesn’t actually invent a likeable Bond) . This movie is very mammoth and there is a lot to like. But owing to its hugeness (and the fact that the Brosnan Bonds no longer have the astronomical creative stable of writers Michael Wilson and Richard Maibaum and director John Glen) it is an uneven movie. The Bonds withhold getting bigger but that may not ultimately work in their favor. Collected, this movie tries hard and the results are mostly delicious.

So … this isn’t a rummage sale of okay Bonds. There’s salubrious stuff here. Lots of fun to be had and a collection that is worth the label of admission.

I bought this box dwelling as a birthday prove for a friend who is hard of hearing, thinking that he could expend the closed caption option.

I was shy to get that all the DVD’s in all of the James Bond boxed sets are NOT closed captioned in English!

How can they sell these these DVDs in the USA, stamp them as “closed captioned” and not station on the box that they are NOT closed captioned in English?

I had the pleasure of seeing the third Animation Exhibit in a theater last year and loved it. If you’re a faded person who enjoys animation at all I highly recommend this DVD and the previous boxed position release of Vol 1 & 2. This is a chance to seek a wide variety of piquant shorts with different, styles, stories, & moods.

When most people assume of animation they assume of Looney Tunes type comedies and kids entertainment. The cartoons that are featured on these DVDs will give those people an belief of how varied lively storytelling can salvage.

Now the “BUT” …

This DVD, like Vol 1 & 2, removes a few shorts that were shown in the theatrical presentation and adds ones that weren’t.

Buy,Download, Or Stream The Animation Show, Vol. 3! Click Here

This DVD release does not include

“9″ by Shane Acker

“Overtime” by Oury Atlan, Thibaut Berland and Damien Ferrie

“Eaux Forte (Tidal Wave) ” by Remi Chaye

“Davey and Son of Goliath” by Corky Quackenbush

Shorts added to the DVD are:

“Astronauts” by Matthew Walker

“Carlitopolis” by Nieto

“One D” by Mike Grimshaw

“Tyger” by Guilherme Marcondes

“Learn Self Defense” by Chris Harding

“Abigail” by Tony Comely

“Shuteye Hotel” by Bill Plympton

While it’s colossal that they added some original material to the package, it’s frustrating that anything was nick out. This is especially frustrating because they carve one of my accepted films in the program, Shane Acker’s “9″. The obedient news is “9″ is being developed as a feature length film being released in September of this year, so I’m determined the short will be found on the DVD? /Blu-Ray release next year.

Even without the 4 missing films this is a ample value for any animation fan. I’m looking forward to the release of vol 4 (which I missed seeing in a theater, and I hope that they’re planning a vol 5 for this topple.

The Top-notch Things

*Good video/sound quality.

*A very worthy collection of bright shorts from all over the world in different styles, moods, genres, and mediums. Each one is distinctive, artistic, and invoking in their contain ways. They’re all worthwhile watching.

The Abominable Things

*Most shorts are not for kids due to language and violence (and some sexuality in “Dreams and Desires”) .

*The camouflage is a diminutive misleading. There are no mutant lobsters or dive-bombing airplanes in any of the shorts (but it is an imaginative shroud) .

The Other Things

*Presented in fullscreen. Any widescreen shorts are letterboxed.

*Any shorts in a foreign language have English subtitles.

And here is the list of the short films themselves:

*Beavis and Butthead Introduction; it’s short, dull, and laughable.

*”Rabbit,” which appears to be a computer-animated film with no spoken words, but has words everywhere surrounding stuff. It’s a funky style that’s visually sharp. The yarn itself (about two kids who ogle an idol that spawns jewels and stuff) is morbid and queer, but has a fairy-tale charm to it.

*”City Paradise,” which appears to have genuine actors provocative in exclusive ways. It’s a funky artsy film that makes exiguous sense, but is kind of slick. I couldn’t even say what it’s about; some Japanese lady moves to a great city and apparently swims to the core of the Earth.

*”Everything Will Be Okay,” a bleak drama with stick figures, about a man who appears to have a neurological disorder and is about to die. Its long, but at times comical and emotional. Very strong themes about death.

*”Collision,” which is unprejudiced a very short burst of icy computer-generated stars and stuff.

*”Astronauts,” a silly computer-generated film about dumb astronauts.

*”Carlitopolis,” is a French film that shows a live actor experimenting with a seemingly live rat (which has been keen to note cartoonish effects) . It’s blooming tidy.

*”No Room for Gerold,” is like a German soap opera, only the people have animal heads.

*”Guide Dog,” probably my common, a cute small film about a dog desperately trying to assist his masters.

*”One D,” a comic computer-animated film about a world in the first dimention.

*”Tyger,” a funky combination of CGI and shadow puppets. It’s artistic and icy. Based on a poem, it shows a mammoth tiger spirited through a city, turning everything into a jungle.

*”Versus,” a French CGI film about two groups of samurai trying to wipe each other out in very droll ways.

*”Learn Self Defense,” a hilarious lesson in how to fight.

*”Abigail,” is a curious but artistic short. It depicts a crashing plane with crazy people inside.

*”Shuteye Hotel,” is a combination of rough sketchy drawing and CGI. It’s a film-noir thriller about people who die at a hotel.

*”Dreams and Desires,” a very rough sketchy cartoon about a woman trying to film a wedding.

*”Game Over,” an awesome stop-motion titillating diddy showing conventional computer games (like Pac-Man or Centipede) using various objects and shapes.

As a fan of any produce of animation, I was ecstatic with this collection. It made me laugh and bawl. I’d gladly reccomend it to anybody looking for fine artistic shorts.

The Warner Oland cycle is now complete. The special interest groups that fearful the Fox Movie Channel into not showing re-mastered editions of the Charlie Chan films attend in 2003 have ultimately failed. With the release of Vol 3, ALL the Warner Oland Chan films (not counting the lost ones) are available on DVD for all who want to gawk them. (Hopefully, the rest of the Toler Chans will follow) Long live the enormous detective. And to the P.C. forces that don’t like it I can only say is…Thank you…so noteworthy…

Charlie Chan was originally created by novelist Earl Derr Biggers (1884-1933), who very loosely based the character on Hawaii’s legendary police officer Chang Apana (1887-1933.) Biggers wrote six novels in all, and after several fraudulent starts 20th Century Fox (then simply known as Fox) hit on the just combination of actors, mystery, and comedy. The result was perhaps the single most approved film series Hollywood ever created.

Contemporary audiences tend to belief the films as politically improper, but the fact remains that Chan and his family–most often personified by Keye Luke as son Lee–were among the very few distinct Asian characters on American movie screens at the time; as such they were particularly common with Asian-American audiences of the day. Volume 3 of the 20th Century Fox collection rounds out the surviving films starring Warner Oland, who was the recent series Chan.

Several Chan films have been lost; the earliest peaceful in existence is THE Shaded CAMEL, the second in the series. Based directly on the Biggers unusual of the same name, this 1931 release finds Chan investigating the abolish of a Hollywood star in Hawaii. Loosely suggested by the William Taylor Desmond execute and filmed partly on status, THE Dim CAMEL is atypical of most Chan films–and all the more moving for that. It also has the fortune of Bela Lugosi as Warner Oland’s co-star, and Lugosi and Oland have unexpected chemistry. Released in 1936, CHARLIE CHAN’S SECRET is a yarn of a missing heir, a woman who is under the influence of “spirtualists,” and features seances, a creepy mansion, and lots of foolish-but-fun status turns. Although not one of the best Chan films, it is among my beget favorites.

Released in 1938, CHARLIE CHAN ON BROADWAY and CHARLIE CHAN AT MONTE CARLO were the last two Chan films made starring Oland, who died not long after. Both films feature Keye Luke as son Lee Chan. ON BROADWAY finds Chan doing battle with a murderous blackmailer in Unique York; it is among the better films in the series, slick and well executed. AT MONTE CARLO finds Chan seeking stolen bonds–and plunging into a mixture of blackmail and slay as a result. While it tends to be a bit slower than most Chans, it too is toothsome.

Fox has done very well by the Chan films in the past, but on this occasion the studio has really knocked itself in terms of bonuses. There are the usual, expertly made “featurettes” on various aspects of the series, but on this occasion two films (Shaded CAMEL and SECRET) have very erudite, moving commentaries. The station also includes items of interest: a print of Late THAT CURTAIN, a very early Chan film that is not properly section of the series, and a re-creation via stills and dialogue of the lost film CHARLIE CHAN’S CHANCE. Regretfully, Late THAT CURTAIN is a dire film and best left to hardcore fans, and the recreation of CHANCE is more akin to an Ed Wood film than a Chan film–but Fox gets points for worry. The restorations are not flawless, but they are mighty better than other prints; recommended for Chan fans everywhere!

Also in Volume 3, the seemingly exiled home of Kira Yamato, Lacus Clyne, Murrue Ramius, and Andrew Waltfield is suddenly attacked by a squad of Coordinator Special Forces, whose sole unprejudiced is to cancel Lacus. Faced with a recent, unknown enemy, Kira accepts his inevitable fate and once again steps into the cockpit of his Gundam Freedom – as the legendary Archangel is about to be re-enter service.

Although Gundam Seed Destiny has only impartial began, the enveloping storyline is very skilled in grasping the viewer’s attention. With more turns and twists than ever, the next phase of the Gundam Franchise promises to be spectacular, suspenseful, and pretty. As the series reveals, nothing is as it seems – and in the Gundam tradition, no matter how massive the explosion, pilots can always survive – so notice out for sudden re-appearances and repulsive revelations as the series continues!

Well, finally got my hands on Vol 3. I waited to perceive the conclusions from Vol 2. Vol 3 has some grand high points and outrageous points. There were two that stood out. One was when Shin uses his Destiny Seed for the first time without quick-witted how he did it. The second one is where Kira spoils the wedding of that tiring, guy and having a bonus of Archangel in action again… Can’t wait for VOL 4!!!
