Blood, bravery & idealism in an epic fist punch to your gut.star50 tpng Braveheart Discount.
On a whole number of levels, this movie shouldn’t have worked for me. It takes considerable license with historical facts, not only in order to supplement details that are not part of William Wallace’s legend but actually, wherever convenient. (“We stuck to history where we could but hyped it up where the legend let us,” actor-director Mel Gibson admits on the DVD’s commentary track.) It is graphically and unabashedly violent: from throat cuttings to battle scenes that have film blood literally splashing onto the camera, beheadings, a traitor’s head smashed with a
wrecking ball, and fully 15 minutes of Wallace’s “purification by pain,” it shows some of the most brutal behavior conceivable. It also engages in some of the most blatant gay profiling in recent film history – not just in the drastic end administered on the lover of King Edward I. “Longshanks”‘s son, but equally in the portrayal of both characters and their relationship as such. Last but not least, Mel Gibson plays a man at least 10 years younger than himself, a choice often enough bordering on the ridiculous. (Gibson insists it was the studio’s wish that he not only produce and direct but also star in the title role.)

And yet …

From the first notes of James Horner’s hauntingly beautiful soundtrack and the first sweeping camera shots over the Scottish highlands, blending seamlessly into the pictures of the Scottish riders on their way to the alleged truce talks initiated by Longshanks, and the narrator’s, Robert the Bruce’s (Angus MacFadyen’s) introduction – “I shall tell you about William Wallace: Historians from England will call me a liar, but history is written by those who have hanged heroes” – there is no mistaking that this is an epic story, taking up the tradition of the likes of “Spartacus” and “Ben Hur.” Like those movies, “Braveheart” is a story of heroism and of having the courage of one’s convictions; chronicling the life of its hero from first love to loss, betrayal, battles and final confrontation with his arch-enemy’s powers. Like both of them, “Braveheart” won multiple Academy Awards, not least for John Toll’s outstanding cinematography. Like “Ben Hur,” it also won the coveted awards for “Best Picture” and for “Best Director.” And maybe I’m just a sucker for that kind of epos …

To my surprise, I found Mel Gibson to come across very believable as William Wallace; age difference, Scottish brogue and all. Both his acting and his direction are informed by a clear sense of vision for the movie and its title character. Moreover, although full writing credits went to would-be (?) Wallace descendant Randall W., many little details undeniably show Gibson’s hand and mannerisms: to name just a few of the more obvious examples, Wallace’s marriage proposal to Murron, his grinning greeting of a group of English soldiers trapped below a cliff, and his response to a doubting Scottish soldier’s comment at Sterling that he can’t really be Wallace because he’s not tall enough.

In addition to John Toll’s award winning cinematography, the movie benefits from first-rate production design (Tom Sanders), a score which perfectly captures the mood of every single scene, and a cast of outstanding actors; first and foremost Patrick McGoohan as Longshanks, who portrays the king’s utter ruthlessness so convincingly that you completely forget his earlier incarnation as the 1960s’ “Danger Man,” and who delivers monologues and soliloquies worthy of a Shakespearean king. His musing “but whom shall I send” when plotting to send a messenger to Wallace with another insincere offer of truce, and his chilling announcement of the reinstitution the ius primae noctae because “the trouble with Scotland is that it is full of Scots … If we can’t get them out, we’ll breed them out” could have been uttered verbatim by anyone of the Bard’s most sinister kings. (Screenwriter Randall Wallace does indeed admit to Shakespeare’s direct influence on the script, particularly on Wallace’s “Sons of Scotland” speech before the battle of Sterling, which is strongly based on the monologues of King Henry V. at Agincourt).

Equally impressive is Ian Bannen in one of his last roles, starring as Robert the Bruce’s leprosy-ridden father and evil spirit, whose first reaction to the tales about Wallace is to deride him (“He has courage; so does a dog”), and who expertly plays on his son’s ambivalent feelings, until he finally drives Robert into hating his father for having coaxed him into his own game of scheming and betrayal – whereupon the elder Bruce drily comments: “At last you have learned what it means to hate. Now you are ready to be a king.”

Then-newcomer Catherine McCormack stars as Wallace’s childhood love Murron, whose scenes with Wallace provide for much-needed tenderness in the first hour of the movie – particularly touching is four year old Murron’s gift of a thistle (Scotland’s national flower) to orphaned William – and contrast sharply with the bloodshed that follows virtually incessantly from her death onwards. Sophie Marceau matures from teenage party queen (“La Boum”) to French Princess Isabelle; Brendan Gleeson stars as Wallace’s boyhood friend Hamish, David O’Hara as his heaven-conversing, self-appointed Irish guardian Stephen – one of the movie’s most colorful characters – and Brian Cox brings all his extraordinary screen presence to his brief appearance as Wallace’s uncle Argyle.

When I left the theater after having witnessed this movie’s almost three hours of blood, gore and intense emotions for the first time, I felt as if somebody had given me a fist punch into my stomach. I was so struck that I was almost unable to speak, and dragged my moviegoing companion into the next bar, to revive my spirits with a glass of whiskey. (Scotch, of course). Having seen the film countless times since then, I no longer need that whiskey to overcome its drastic impact – but I still get gooseflesh during many of its key scenes and can’t watch it without feeling emotionally drained at the end.

Braveheart – Mel Gibson’s crowning achievement!star50 tpng Braveheart Discount.
“Braveheart” is quite simply, one of the best and most successful movies ever created and a huge part of that success comes from the efforts extended by Mel Gibson, as he wore three different hats for this masterpiece, those being producer, director and star. The one oddity about this movie for me was that I pretty much wore out my VHS copy of it and had, a couple years ago, purchased the DVD but only just recently took the opportunity to watch it again and no matter how many times you watch this movie, it is still a stunning, compelling and extraordinarily intriguing film that draws you in to the life of William Wallace despite already knowing how it’s going to end.

The one thing that drives this movie is the spirit that Mel Gibson puts into his character of William Wallace and it is of no surprise that “Braveheart” won five Academy Awards, including Best Picture of 1995 and Best Director for Mel Gibson. The only true surprise was that he wasn’t among the top five nominated for or won the Best Actor award.

High praise also goes to the long list of supporting actors and actresses that starred in this superb film! Most notable was the performance by Sophie Marceau, one of the most beautiful women on the planet. Patrick McGoohan was absolutely incredible in the role of the villain Longshanks, King Edward I, delivering a memorable performance.

One of the most notable performances in this film, among the many, was the work done by James Horner who was responsible for the score. As is normally the case when his name appears in the credits, everything about the score, from the first reel to the last, is incredibly well blended into the movie and serves extremely well in enhancing the experience of the movie.

The Premise:

As the old saying goes, is it Hollywood or History? The truth is, of course it’s a bit of history, put together Hollywood style to make one of the best films ever presented to an audience. The truth behind it is that we’ll never know as recorded history from this era is circumspect as best. Where a huge portion of the credit for this film lays is in the hands of Randall Wallace, a descendant of William Wallace’s.

As this historic film opens, we see a young William Wallace in Scotland as he’s learning the harsh lessons of life in his era. After his family is killed in battle he’s fortunate enough to have his Uncle Argyle (played brilliantly by Brian Cox) take him under his wing! Several years later he returns home to find that his countrymen are still suffering under the yoke of English oppression but he didn’t come home for that, he came home for Murron MacClannough (Catherine McCormack), seeking her hand in marriage. Unfortunate events unfold from there and William loses the love of his life and goes on a rampage not only to avenge his love but to free his country…

What follows from there is not only one of the best films of the nineties but one of the best films of all times. I highly recommend “Braveheart” to any and all who are interested in seeing what true movie making is about! {ssintrepid}

There are a few I think who missed the point.star50 tpng Braveheart Discount.
In order to maintain the appearence of objectivity, I was going to rate this movie 4 stars. But I just couldn’t. It really deserves 5, and it’s going to get every one of them. This movie features some of the most stunning cinematography I’ve ever seen (scenes of particular brilliance include the deer-hunting scene and the slo-mo shots right before Gibson’s first rebellion), impeccable acting (I don’t know why the British have been hiding their actors from the American film industry – every one of the British/Scottish actors in the film was amazing, and Patrick McGoohan (sp) gave an incredible performance as Longshanks, not to mention newcomer Sophie Marceau), a magical musical score, and on and on and on and on. Physical elements alone qualify this work for the title of Best Picture.

Yet, a number of people chastise Gibson and the movie for a number of reasons, primarily its departure from historical accuracy. I do believe these people have missed the point, for I do not believe it is fair to criticise a movie for failing to realize a goal for which it never really strived. I wonder: do these same people criticize Homer’s “The Odyssey”? Do historical hardbodies cast aspersions at T.H. White’s “Once and Future King” for taking historical liberties with “King” Arthur? (For that manner, any of the hundreds of contributions to the Arthurian legend). What about Robin Hood? Beowulf? Romance of the Three Kingdoms? Why is it copacetic for a book to create a myth around a cultural hero, but when it comes to film we must be expected to be as straightlaced about historical fact as an army bootcamp is about bedmaking and floor cleaning?

I have read a lot of reviews below and a number of criticisers of the film’s historical authenticity spit out the word “epic” as if it is a word that the American film industry has abused and transmogrified into a catchphrase for luring in gullible American movie-goers. But I argue that Braveheart, and the historical inaccuracies which it adopts (and it adopts many, which are nicely pointed out elsewhere), fit the same formula for “Epic Fiction” that we use to classify great (and I mean, universally accepted as great) epic works of fiction such as the Iliad, the Odyssey, etc. These works are not about who did what where and when and in what fashion. They are about the myth, the hero, and the way that they have influenced the ideals of the culture (italicize that). Was there really a Grendel, a Cyclops shepherd, a Wizard named Merlin, or Chinese war heroes who could single-handedly take on a small army? No. And yet, these works of fiction (and the mythological heroes that they have created) have had as much if not more of an impact on their respective cultures than any real life historical event. The impact of the epic is therefore not to be underestimated. Does the fact that Gibson portrayed the battle of Sterling Bridge without a Bridge really make that much of a differnce? The end outcome was the same, at least from an idealogical point of view. He rallied his men to victory with brilliant tactics against insurmountable odds. The presence or absence of a bridge, naked men, or twenty foot spears does not change that. The myth survives.

Finally, regarding historical accuracy, there is the fact that although the movie does take a lot of liberties in order to portray a THEME – I am intelligent enough to suspend my disbelief during the movie. Furthermore, after the movie is over, (and this is a credit to the movie-maker) I was intrigued enough to go do some research on the subject from an objective historical source to find out what really happened. If a work of art (which is not, I remind you, required to be objective – artistic objectivity is almost an oxymoron and film should not be treated differently in this regard than any other form of art) instills in me a desire to learn more about a subject while at the same time portraying well the epic themes it sets out to portray, then in my book it was a successful venture and worthy of all the accolades it receives….Again, this is an epic, and just as a Greek epic might portray the Trojans as ruthless savages and their own members as heroic visionaries, I think it is acceptable for a Scottish epic to do the same to the British. And calling Gibson a homophobic is just ridiculous. Whether or not Edward II was really gay is not important. If he was, then BY THE STANDARDS OF THE DAY, he was an outcast, and would have been perceived, especially by his father, as weak, without potential, and unfit to rule. If he wasn’t gay, but was just disinterested in ruling a kingdom (and history is filled to the brim with examples of less than sterling royal progeny), he would have again been seen (especially by his father) as weak, without potential and unfit to rule (because fathers – especially kings – have expectations of their sons), and questions about his sexuality would have naturally begun to arise among the nobility and commonfolk. What we as viewers of a historical or epic piece of artwork must do is refrain from judging said work by our standards. Today, homosexuality is (for the most part) accepted by society. Back then, it wasn’t, and the mere rumor was enough to get you rejected from society (and vice-versa). Therefore, in light of the times in which the movie is set, the portrayal of the weak fop of a prince, EdwardII, as homosexual is both acceptable and indicative of the society that the movie was trying to portray. It wouldn’t, for example, have made much sense to portray Edward I as gay. Not because a gay man couldn’t be a successful King or military leader, but because a gay man would never have achieved respect as a monarch – THEN – by the people or his enemy.

In closing, this is an excellent film that deserves its status as a best picture, despite (and perhaps because of) its historical inaccuracies. I encourage anyone with any interest in medieval history to view it, because it might just entice you to look into more historically accurate documents that, while not as entertaining as the movie iteself, will give you a more wholistic picture of what really happened.

This review refers to the 20th Century Fox DVD edition of “Hope Floats”…..

Forest Whitaker gives us a nice taste of his behind the camera talents with his direction of this touching and romantic feel good film. He has assembled a terrific cast including the charming Sandra Bullock, the irresistable Harry Connick Jr.,and the always wonderful Gena Rowlands. Add to that a story that will touch you with it’s character’s strength, humor and loving bonds of family by Steven Rogers, a soundtrack you’ll want to hear over and over and terrific photogrpahy and you’ve got yourself a great recipe for a delightful movie break.

Birdie Pruitt(Bullock)was the sweetheart of her hometown, Smithville, Texas. She had it all..beauty queen, cheerleader, married to her high school sweetheart,a daughter who is the apple of her eye, and living the good life now in Chicago. But Birdie’s perfect life is about to unravel. After appearing on one of those afternoon talk shows for what she thinks will be a make-over, she is hit with the awful truth that her best friend and husband are having an affair.

Devasted, humiliated on national T.V., and feeling all is lost, she packs up herself and her daughter and beats a retreat back to Smithville. The road back to self-esteem is a long one for Birdie, as she shuts herself off from life and love and must deal with readjusting to a new life.

Sandra Bullock will warm your heart as she learns to open hers again. Harry Connick Jr. will keep you smiling, as the childhood friend who has always loved her, and tries to breakdown Birdie’s walls. And Gena Rowlands is perfect as the mother who won’t let her child give up. Bernice, Birdie’s young daughter is played brillantly by the young Mae Whitman and will evoke a lump in your throat as the child of divorce. Lots of great music including songs by Sheryl Crow, Bryan Adams and a beautiful rendition of “Smile” by Charles Chaplin, added to a moving score by Dave Grusin, are all just the right touches to this heartwarming story.

The DVD is an excellent presentation. The picture in widescreen(1.85:1)is very good with nice colors. The Sound in Dolby Dig 5.1 surrounds the room nicely. It may be viewed in French(stereo) and has subtitles in English and Spanish for those needing them. There are no other special features though.

If you’re in need of a little pick-me-up, this is the film to do it. A feel good movie that’s romantic, poignant and humorous, will leave you appreciating all that you already have, and with a smile as well.

enjoy…..Laurie

What an excellent movie about how difficult it is to go home. Birdie Pruitt was what every girl dreams of being in high school – the cheerleader, beauty queen, and married to her sweetheart. When her husband leaves her for none other than her best friend, Birdie comes home to start her life again. For some, it is nice to have her home, but for others, they love throwing her failures in her face.

This has to be one of my very favorite movies and the soundtrack is THE BEST COUNTRY music I have ever heard, and I don’t even listen to Country Music LOL in fact I liked the music (and the movie) so much I have purchased both for friends at least twice!!! On to my review…..

Gena Rowlands is Fantastic as the Momma, Harry Connick Jr. is simply charming as the “wanna be” Beau, the actor that played “Travis” was adorable and heartwarming, Bernice (the daughter of Sandra Bullock in the movie) was casted very well she was perfect as a stubborn, hurt and confused little girl trying to deal with the divorce of her Beloved Daddy and her (now seen as the enemy) Momma. Of course I can not leave out Sandra Bullock I was impressed with her ability to portray the hurt and the recovery of a women who has sunk to depression after her husband has found another, a mother that is struggling to keep it together for her child and a daughter that comes home to a town and a Mother that remembers her in a certain light.

Forrest Whitaker did a tremendous job In my Honest Opinion with selecting this cast, creating scenes that make you feel all of what the characters are going through. From the Gena Rowlands character all the way to the children. I can not recommend this movie enough for anyone. Caution…. It’s not light, there are some funny moments and there are some very sad moments. It deals with death, infidelity and parents neglecting their children.

I watched this with my 12 year old, she loved it!!! The soundtrack maybe hard to find but do yourself a favor FIND IT!! it is definately worth it. I had to finally find mine on auction sites and it can come pretty pricy brand new/sealed but still if I ever heard something worth the ticket price the soundtrack for this movie is one of them.

Also if you like this type of movie (with pretty much the same subject matter) check out “Something to Talk About” which stars Gena Rowland as the Momma as well.

Better than both “Seven” and “Natural Born Killers”, director Matthew Bright’s “Freeway” is a looseleaf current notion of Red Riding Hood where Reese Witherspoon plays Red traveling to Grandma’s house.

Only she takes this jog after her prostitute mother and junkie stepdad are arrested, she escapes the cluthces of foster care, she says goodbye to her fiancee who is then murdered in a driveby shooting, she hitches a trudge with a psycho who turns out to be a mass murderer, she kills a few people, ends up in lockup, escapes, finally makes it to Gradma’s house, where some more bloody action takes set.

Oh yes, she has homosexual and heterosexual sex, spends a lot of time saying the “F” word, brutalizes most anyone that gets in her map, and otherwise creates mayhem for everybody. Sounds like your typical Reese Witherspoon role, eh? No, not by a long shot.

Buy,Download, Or Stream Freeway! Click Here

But one thing about her role — she is wonderful, out of this world broad. She is twice the actress in this role she was playing June Carter Cash, for which she won an Oscar as best actress. On the basis of these roles, Witherspoon must be considered one of the best actresses extant proper now.

As the description here and on Amazon indicates, this movie presses the envelope of the “R” rating as far as possible without slipping over into NC-17. There is gory, bloody violence throughout this film, nudity and more “F” and “F”ing talk than you heard by Matt Damon when he played that low-class genius at Harvard. Someone told me they said “F” 147 times in that movie. Witherspoon herself must say it that many times here.

But none of this diminishes the incredible electricity and action that swallows the viewer just from the opening scene, where junkie-hooker mom gets arrested and weirdo-junkie stepdad forces Reese to do the detestable while mom’s out earning a living. There is an uncompromising level of reality in these characterization, too, although it’s clearly an over the top psycho young Sutherland plays.

In an fabulous bit of casting, squeeky desirable prom queen type Brooke Shields is cast as the uptight, upscale wife to lurid pervent and child molester Sutherland, whose character is even more disgusting than Witherspoon’s. While everyone wants Sutherland rubbed out, Witherspoon manages to maintain viewer sympathy because of for her bad situation in life even throughout her ongoing antisocial activities. Other players, incluidng Dan Hedaya as a cop with sympathies all over the situation, contribute a lot to this film.

This is recommended for viewers unafraid to leer inside the gloomy side of our culture where youngsters like the one Witherspoon plays actually exist. There is nothing radiant or desirable about this movie; powerful of it seems upside down. But it is unrelentingly though-provoking and is burly of action in almost every scene, action you may never have seen in a film before.

A 15-year-old illiterate girl named Vanessa Lutz (Reese Witherspoon, about 19 at the time) lives in a crummy motel with her lunatic, methadone-addicted, prostitute mother (Amanda Plummer in an improbable performance) and crack-smoking, child-molesting step father (Michael T. Weiss, of The Pretender, as you have never seen him….before or since) . When mom and dad earn arrested for about the 100th time, dreadful young Vanessa evades Child Protective Services custody, gets a gun from her dusky, gangster fiance (Bokeem Woodbine) who can’t join her because of a parole hearing in the morning and who is immediately murdered in a drive-by shooting, and, wearing a red jacket and carrying a basket, she heads for Grandma’s house (ala Minute Red Riding Hood), only to have car difficulty and be picked up by the dreaded I-5 rapist, pederast, and serial murderer (Keiffer Sutherland) ….now here is the best part: this is a COMEDY!!!

Granted, it is the blackest of sunless comedies, but get no mistake, this gem offers some of the most hilarious dialog and situations you will even eye on film. Brilliantly written and directed by newcomer Matthew Shimmering, it features first-rate performances by a great cast, including an almost unrecognizable Brittany Murphy as a deranged, paint-sniffing lesbian with a face that is hacked up like a post-Christmas ham.

Possibly due to its unorthodox tone and stammer, this 1996 masterpiece never received the marketing and public release it deserved, but was quiet selected by critics (including Roger Ebert) as one of the finest films of the year.

If you want to view a performance by Reese Witherspoon that makes all her subsequent roles, including Ring of Fire, discover like high school plays, then please give this DVD a try. It isn’t the cute, cuddly, predictable Reese of novel times, but an infinitely more moving, gun-toting, butt-kicking, foul-mouthed wild woman who doesn’t pick excellent to those who dare to treat her with disrespect. Like Destroy Bill and Factual Romance, this movie features strong women in situations where attempted victimization by men inevitably leads to mayhem….and a lot of dull, disfigured men.

This is a very special movie that will appeal to those who like the gritty action and gloomy comedic aspects of movies like Pulp Fiction, Accurate Romance, and Destroy Bill. Matthew hit a major home speed on his first time up to bat and has, unfortunately, struck out since. His DVD commentary track will relieve you understand and luxuriate in the intricacies of this truly expansive movie and the personal, somewhat bizarre eccentricities of the director who made it all happen.

I had high hopes for the drama series to become one of the classics. Unfortunately it falls short as the lead actress Lee Yo-Won for the role of adult Duk Man, the future Queen Seondeok, cannot act. While vast in stubborn, kind, and often times wearisome contemporary female roles in her past, Lee proves to be incapable to narrate Korea’s first Queen, known for her outstanding wisdom which eventually provided foundation for the unification of the three Kingdoms on the Korean Peninsula in the 7th Century.

As considerable of the prove was based upon the power matches between the two main characters Mishil and Duk Man, Lee Yo-Won’s unconvincing performance as Duk Man was a stark disagreement to Koh Hyun-Jung’s quick-witted portrayal of the charismatic, much Mishil. While in the account Duk Man wins in the destroy, Lee’s Duk Man is decidedly not a salubrious opponent of Koh’s Mishil. Pretending to occupy Lee’s Duk Man as someone she isn’t through this LONG series is exhausting, taking away quite a bit of the excitement and pleasures from the stories and other actors’ immense acting…

The present enjoys tremendous popularity in Korea. Despite the dumb Lee Yo-Won, the indicate is otherwise kindly, and has plenty to offer. I wouldn’t miss the wonderful Koh Hyun-Jung for the world. So for those who wouldn’t mind a Abominable lead actress, go for it.

This is a astronomical series, it has everything. The characters are marvelous and the account has a lot of twists to withhold you on the edge of your seat. Misil is so terrible she is capable. The woman who plays her Go Hyun Jung is so wonderful, she plays the villainess to perfection. Really worth watching and attractive. Looking forward to watching the next Volume.

I’ve got to hand it to Roger Corman for this one; Wasp Woman is a pleasing darn agreeable movie (albeit with vintage Corman-esque not so special effects) . The film starts off with a whimper, giving us a listless view at bee farming before introducing us to Dr. Zinthrop, who is promptly fired for wasting his time experimenting with wasps. Then we are taken to the boardroom of Janice Starlin Enterprises, a cosmetics company facing lean times because the face that has always sold the product, that of Janice herself, is not as young as it passe to be. Enter Dr. Zinthrop and his incredible anecdote of restoring youth with a wonder-working extract taken from queen wasps. After he turns two obsolete rabbits into young bunnies before her eyes, Janice believes him and insists that she will be his first human test subject. The rest of the company bigshots are increasingly concerned by the secrecy around Zinthrop’s work, but even they cannot say the unusual youthful face of their leader (accomplished mainly by taking away her broken-down maid glasses and having her smile more often) . Unfortunately, Janice secretly injected herself with the experimental, considerable more concentrated extract in order to run the process, and terrible Zinthrop gets bustle over by a car before he can warn her of its rather disturbing side effects. Thus, we are left with several Starling associates trying to earn out what is really going on. They mediate Janice is in worry, but in fact they are the ones in effort. Janice’s headaches are indicative of a worthy more important problem; from time to time, she turns into a giant wasp who is less than civil to her underlings.

The whole wasp woman getup is graceful ridiculous-looking, but one can peruse past such comical special effects and like the movie for the fun, B-movie classic it is. The acting is unusually fine for a Corman movie, and Susan Cabot particularly shines as Janice Starling. I’ve seen a number of Roger Corman movies, and this 1960 offering is by far the best of the bunch as far as I am concerned.

From Roger Corman, one of the most prolific director/producers in Hollywood, comes The Wasp Woman (1960), a film that was most probably influenced by 1958′s The Soar, with Vincent Mark. Hey, if Hollywood can turn a man into a soar, why not turn a woman into a wasp? Well, no one ever accused Corman of originality.

The movie opens up with a scientist getting fired from a company the produces honey as he is doing some exclusive experimentation. Seems the Scientist, Eric Zinthrop, played by Michael Note, has been exploring the belief of using royal jelly to compose a rejuvenation formula. After getting fired, Zinthrop contacts Janice Starlin, played by Susan Cabot, the head of Starlin Cosmetics. Starlin Cosmetics is losing sales due to the fact that Ms. Starlin was the only spokesperson for the cosmetics, and now that she is aging, sales are falling off. After talking to Zinthrop and seeing his success on turning abet time with various animals, she hires him on, sets him up in a lab, and they start treatments on her. The process appears to be working, but Ms. Starlin becomes impatient, wanting more results quicker, so she secretly starts injecting herself with the formula. What happens? Choose a guess…I mean, the movie is titled The Wasp Woman.

The acting wasn’t unpleasant, but we didn’t even study the wasp woman until almost an hour into this rather talky feature. There are some bloody deaths, and the invent up to beget the wasp woman isn’t all that awful, but the movie would have benefited from not making us wait so long in seeing the creature, filling up the 73 miniature bustle time with nonsensical space threads that don’t earn.

Alpha Video provides an exceptionally unpleasant print here, as the film has all kinds of blemishes and even drops out briefly at a couple of points. The recount appears washed out, and the audio is fine unpleasant. No special features here in this barebones release, not even a trailer, but for under ten bucks I wasn’t expecting powerful. Now that I’ve experienced the quality of Alpha Video, I doubt I will capture any more of their releases. I would recommend someone eager in owning this movie on DVD to do a small research, as I have since found out a number of companies have released a version, some even on double bills with other movies. I will say the screen art on the Alpha Video release looks enticing, but, as with most things in life, you fetch what you pay for here.

You want classic Sci Fi with visionary special effects and mind-bending themes? Check out STAR WARS or 2001! You want a zero gravity striptease, costumes that plunge off at a moment’s gawk, and a residence craft with wall to wall shag carpeting traveling through a lava lamp? BARBARELLA fits the bill! This is the widescreen DVD version with no edits. Although I have heard rumors of a more animated nick somewhere out there, this is not the PG rerelease from the 70s. Witness the movie Jane Fonda wants you to forget! Too poor because she’s sexy, droll, and elegant here. Groove to the soundtrack of Phil Spector rip-offs, recognize in panic as she seduces … well… everyone in the film (incuding a female tyrant with a horn!) . But unruffled, it’s splendid tame and innocent fun. I glance this when I want to be in a safe mood. It’s comical, fluffy fun! A pink bunny if you will.

This film, along with other elegant classics such as “Beyond the Valley of the Dolls,” are definite proof that the age of really, really terrible yet first-rate films is slow us. Site in the 41st Century, the hypersexual Barbarella goes in search of the unpleasant renegade scientist Duran Duran and manages to stumble across what must be the grooviest planet this side of “Vegas in Set.” In her quest to score Duran Duran (“Pardon me, but do you know Duran Duran? “), Barbarella manages to shag half the planet and pique the prurient interest of the atrocious, yet uber-sensual bisexual queen (“hello, my lovely, delicate”) . After demolishing the unbelievable Orgasmatron and getting herself locked into the queen’s funky chamber of dreams, Barbarella saves the day with a bubble of goodness and some wait on from her blind angel friend Pygor. The unbelievably unpleasant acting in this film is very well counterbalanced by the improbable Pucciesque fun fur sets and extraordinary special effects (i.e. Everytime Barbarella has an orgasm her hair instantaneously perms itself!) It’s impossible, given our novel climate of cynicism, to fabricate kindly quality camp like this today. All attempts to reproduce a movie this overwhelmingly dreadful would unprejudiced have to fail. Yet, I cannot recommend this film highly enough – accelerate, do not spin, to inspect it.

This is a high quality series, a loyal value for your money. The Sonic Underground is a broad TV series and I have been hoping that they would release more Sonic Underground episodes in Set 1.

If you want a Sonic the Hedgehog cartoon that is follows the same narrative line as the video games, this series is not for you. If you are looking for a classic Sonic the Hedgehog cartoon with a bit of a twist, I highly recommend this series.

Sonic Underground has a salubrious tale line, spacious characters, and obedient morals (which is not the case with most of the cartoons these days) . Sonia’s grunt could exercise improvement, but after you listen for a minute while you fetch outmoded to it.

As for the music, there is one song in every episode. Some adults may not like the songs, but the episodes are geared towards children and most children fancy the songs. They have a catchy beat, have trustworthy morals and are fun!

It is sure that the creators of Sonic Underground effect powerful misfortune and time into the detailed artwork and narrative line of the note. The chronicle line is different than the games, but it is a great epic line nonetheless.

There are other episodes that hopefully will be released if there is enough examine for this series. I hope that you will deem buying it so that they will complete the Sonic Underground DVD collection and other Sonic the Hedgehog cartoon series collections.

If you searched for Sonic Underground on Amazon, you are probably a fan of the series, but if not, I will briefly summarize: Sonic Underground is a cartoon from 1999 that stars the illustrious Sonic the Hedgehog from Sega’s most accepted video game franchise. Sonic Underground introduced many firsts for the Sonic franchise including instruments, Sonic’s family members, and an overall darker feel than previous Sonic games and shows.

The newly released Sonic Underground DVD status consists of 20 of the modern 40 aired episodes on a 3 DVD region. Also included is a bonus CD including 8 songs from the prove. Packed with bonus features ranging from commentary to a music video jukebox, the spot is definately a large prefer.

Sonic Underground is by far one of the most underrated TV series of all time and honest may be the best cartoon ever made in my idea. If you are a Sonic fan or fair looking for a vast series to eye, Sonic Underground is for you.

This movie is a Matthew Brady photo come to lifestar50 tpng The Red Badge of Courage Sale $2.99!
This movie is a Matthew Brady photo come to life. While it is true that the leads, Audie Murphy and Bill Mauldin, were not professional actors, they were cast for their wonderful faces and the fact that they had actually been through a recent war. Considering what Murphy had been through, his innocence and boyishness is a joy to behold. And they are surrounded by pros such as Andy Devine, Bill Easton and Royal Dano – as well as the usual Huston cronies. It has many moving vignettes – the captured Rebs being questioned by their Yankee peers, Andy Devine, as the jolly soldier, leading Murphy back to his unit, the General falling to prayer before battle, Murphy confessing his cowardice to Mauldin, the General promising to have supper with the men, etc…

The narration was added later because the studio had no confidence in Murphy being able to convey the story. This was years before Hollywood understood how effective non-professionals could be if directed properly. The studio also hated the General’s high-pitched voice and so dubbed in a different actor and, of course, the complete butchering of whole scenes which reduced the movie to about 55 minutes.

With all its faults, this is one of Huston’s true beauties.

Fine film about war and courage and human naturestar50 tpng The Red Badge of Courage Sale $2.99!
John Huston directed this film adaptation of the famous Steven Crane
novel. As soon as it was finished, he left to work on The African
Queen, leaving the editing in the hands of the studio. But it was
1951, the height of the McCarthy era. There was a movement in this
country against anti-war films. And so the film was cut to a mere 69
minutes, which put it into the category of a “B” movie to be
shown only as a second feature. That was a full fifty years ago, and
in spite of the supposed butchering job on the cutting room floor, the
film definitely has stood the test of time. Of course I will never
know what the original was supposed to be. And I haven’t even read the
novel. But I sure am glad I saw this video.

I understand that Steven
Crane wrote the book in 1894, which was a full thirty years after the
Civil War. He was 22 years old at the time and had never actually been
in a battle himself. He was trying to say something about war and
courage and human nature rather than about the specific war. And so
his work is unique among the vast body of writings about that awful
period of history that tore at the heart and soul of our
country.

Audie Murphy stars as The Youth and, with the exception of
Andy Devine who has a small role lasting no more than a minute, the
rest of the cast are unknowns. They all portray Union soldiers and we
first see them bored and anxious to fight a battle. They brag about
their courage and how they all intend to stand firm in the heat of
battle. The Youth has his doubts and the tension mounts as the
inevitable battle tests them all. Frightened, The Youth flees. Later
though, he returns and proves his manhood. The story is as simple as
that.

There is also a narrator in the story, reading excerpts from the
pen of Steven Crane. The language is beautiful and adds depth to the
simple conversations of the soldiers. The black and white photography
is grainy and much of it is shot in shadow, adding to the intimacy and
the authenticity of the film. There was a literary rhythm to it all
and it added intensity.

The role called for excellent acting and Audie
Murphy was perfect. I understand that in real life he won national
fame as the most decorated GI in WW2, winning 45 medals. He led a
turbulent life, plagued by what is now known as post traumatic stress
syndrome. A compulsive gambler, he won and lost fortunes, was addicted
to prescription sleeping pills and was once acquitted of attempted
murder charges stemming from a fistfight. But all that came later. In
1951, he was perfect for the role of The Youth. Recommended

A Remarkable Filmstar50 tpng The Red Badge of Courage Sale $2.99!
Red Badge is an example of a great film that the Hollywood studio system almost destroyed, and did chop to pieces. Huston’s masterpiece was originally longer. Studio bosses opposed his casting and script; they rearranged scenes and, yet, could not ruin the overall quality that Audie Murphy and John Huston created. Two books tell the story of Audie’s best movies: PICTURE by Lillian Ross, and A THINKER’S DAMN by William Russo. Each recounts in extraordinary detail how great movies are made–and then unmade. Read them to understand Audie’s movies better.

You CAN Go Home Again…..star40 tpng Hope Floats Lowest Price!

My Cup Runneth Over…………..star50 tpng Hope Floats Lowest Price!
