Robotech – The Macross Saga 3: Homecoming, contains episodes 13 through 18 of the legendary anime series from the mid 1980s.

For the uninitiated, Robotech was the most approved of the Americanized Japanese anime series to hit American TV waves during the 1970s and 1980s (along with Star Blazers, Voltron, Transor Z, etc.) Known for its cutting edge animation, high tech battle scenes, futuristic weapons (planes, tanks, motorcyles that transform into robots), icy alien invaders, and realistic and compelling storylines, Robotech swept an entire generation and helped achieve Japanese Anime forever on the diagram of American pop culture.

Set in the 21st century, Robotech’s sweeping saga spanned three seasons and weaved together three trusty separate Japanese anime series: Season 1- The Macross Saga, Season 2 – The Robotech Masters (The Southern Faulty in Japan), and Season 3 – The Unusual Generation (Mospeada in Japan) . The basic memoir premise is that the earth became forever changed when a mysterious alien battleship crashed on earth. The people of the world, now incandescent that they are not alone in the universe, slay all wars and unite to understand and assimilate the advanced technology and prepare for the inevitable alien invasion that is certain to arrive. As the narrative unfolds mankind would go on to battle three separate alien races over the next three seasons. The sweeping intergalactic war saga itself though, merely becomes the backdrop of a more deeper “human” saga.

This volume chronicles adventures from the first season – The Macross Saga. At this fraction in the anecdote, the storyline is aloof slowly building up, intricately creating and interweaving several plotlines, while quiet incorporating immense action and drama, all culminating in the tragic events of episode 18. Here are the episodes featured on this DVD:

Episode 13 – Bluewind: Vermillion Group returns to the SD-F1 with a heroes welcome. It’s a accelerate against time as the Zentraedi renegade Khyron renews his attack. Can they earn it wait on to earth before Khyron destroys them? Plus, the Zentraedi infiltrators open their glimpse of “Micronian” culture.

Episode 14- Gloval’s Report: Recap of the events till date as Gloval files his characterize to the Earth Government recounting the events of the past year.

Episode 15 – Homecoming: Gloval and Lisa portray to the Earth government calling for peace negotiations and receive an respond (and orders) they do not want to hear. Plus, Rick escorts Minmei home to Japan to study her family where we’re introduced to her cousin, Lynn Kyle.

Episode 16 – Battle Cry: The citizens of Macross City become upset over their site. Rick is injured as Khyron attacks. Also, more misadventures with the spies as Minmei’s career skyrockets!!!

Episode 17 – Phantasm: As his body struggles for life, Rick slips into a delirium, reliving a warped version of his past as he struggles over his feelings for the two women in his life, Lynn Minmei and Lisa Hayes.

Episode 18 – Farewell, Ample Brother: Rick recovers in the hospital while Lisa struggles with her feelings over Rick. Ace Zentraedi pilot Miriam meets her match in Max Safe. The Zentraedi spies continue their peek of earth culture. Plus, tragedy befalls our heroes as one of their greatest champions goes down.

Incidentally, these volumes DO NOT have special DVD features (aside from trailer ads for other anime series coming out on DVD from ADV) . While on its possess this may be considered a crime, not to dismay. If you rob the boxed space collections, each boxed station collection will approach with an “Extra: Elements of Robotechnology” DVD special which will enjoy all the DVD special features you could want: interviews, trailers, commercial spots, specs, etc… So by all means, win the boxed dwelling if you are planning on buying.

I am personally very satisfied that ADV and Harmony Gold have finally released this series on DVD. This is BY FAR one of my common cartoons from childhood. If you’ve never seen Robotech, simply attach YOU MUST. The action and the drama are compelling, clearly showing why Robotech became a pop culture hit. It is the series that forever achieve Japanese anime on the plan in the US. If you did grew up with Robotech, give these a peep again. They’re astronomical for a stagger down memory lane. Honestly, watching these episodes now I can honestly say that they are better than I remember. You can’t lose!!!

Highest Recommendation

As the battle rages on, the fight between the SDF-1 and the Zentradi continues on to Earth. The following episodes include:

Blue Wind: The SDF-1 get a wreck for Earth during battle.

Gloval’s Report: Captain Gloval gives a relate on the SDF-1′s past events.

Homecoming: While Rick takes Minmei to notice her parents in Japan, Lisa Hayes and Gloval give their characterize to the Earth Federation.

Battle Cry: When Minmei’s cousin, Lynn Klye, joins the SDF-1, chaos ensues when the citizens of SDF-1 can not leave the ship. And that pails in comparisson when the Zentradi attack.

Phantasm: When Rick is downed by the Datalus attack, he dreams about Minmei and Lisa. Very confusing episode.

Goodbye Immense Brother: When Rick awakes, the SDF-1 is under attack by Mirya’s squadron. And one pilot will lose his life.

The only episode where the dub doesn’t seem to work is Phantasm. The space gets confusing and sometimes objective unimaginative during that episode. The notorious “magical flying bicylce” line included. Anyway, all the other episodes are extremely ample with an exception for the flash wait on episode, Gloval’s Represent. Overall, another sizable volume, worth every buck.

Akihabara Geeks is a short documentary film that takes a discover at a day in the life of a few inhabitants of the neighborhood in Tokyo known as “Electric Town” which is the center of life for a lot of electronics, anime, and manga enthusiasts, which the narrator describes as “geeks and fanatics”. The film alternates between 4 or 5 different Akibans with different interests and lifestyles. We follow one otaku who is obsessed with cute anime girls and plasters the walls of his limited room with their posters and merchandise. He spends so mighty on his “hobby” that his average amount of money available for food each day is about five dollars! You might reflect this guy is strange or disturbing but later on in the film, his obsession is explained and you are able to understand him a bit better. For people keen in computers and videogames, Akihabara focuses on one man who is trying to gain the world’s fastest computer processor, called “overclocking”. Then there is a exciting scrutinize at how some people execute computer games independently of any tall company and are able to sale around 100,000 copies and do quite well for themselves. Interviews with an employee of a maid cafe who is also a fulltime law student gives insight into why some women work in such places. Lastly, we are introduced to an older man who gave up his situation in a vast corporation to hurry his family’s shrimp electronics storefront in Akihabara. It’s so minute that he has to actually Dawdle into the booth!

This dvd was very delightful to me, because there are not that many dvds that give real-life tours of places of interest to people like me that are alive to in the anime and manga sides of Japan and Tokyo. One thing I did not like about this point to was that the narrator constantly refers to its subjects as “geeks and fanatics”, which on the one hand makes me visualize nerds, and on the other, Islamic fundamentalists. It seems a exact insult for the writers to discover down upon the very people they investigating. After finishing the film, I didn’t reflect any of the people in it were very different than you and me. Even the guy that was twisted on anime girls had his contain very personal reasons for his passion, related to a dusky period in his past. The maid girl too, joined the maid cafe because when she first got to Tokyo, it was a plot where she felt comfortable and delighted, so she wanted to disclose that feeling to others. In the ruin, I consider all of the Akibans shown were fair passionate about what they are alive to in, whether its computers, videogames, anime, serving others, or running a family business. Another complaint I have about his dvd was that it was too short, running about 45 minutes. I wanted to ogle more of the town and would have enjoyed more time in the anime and manga stores. If you are an otaku, or honest alive to in Japan, you should like this.

And its not honest about pop culture, it brings you along on a brief day-in-the life tour of shop owners, workers, anime enthuiasts, and game designers.

Well, you glean a gawk at the lives of about 4 people actually. But its allmost like a japanese reality tv program, but i guess it is powerful more fitting to call it a documentary.

It has pleasurable humor, i must say. I laughed out a loud at many parts.

Buy,Download, Or Stream Akihabara Geeks! Click Here

Its even kinda touching in ways, becouse we gaze that stuff like anime, for instance, has such a strong influence on one young man’s life.

Also, the dedicated shop owner of a electronic parts store was keen.

We also view a designer of a very approved online game in japan.

And theres a man who builds computers and trys to top and smash his processing run portray. Which the documentary claims holds the narrate for fasted computer built.

Plus, we gain to meet a girl who dresses up in costumers at a resturant, who conventional to be very alarmed and not many friends, but the job has helped her not be alone anymore.

Its a fun dvd, and sorta kinda captivating in a diagram, to recognize the lives of people in japan who accept meaning and worth in life through what theyve near to admire. I didnt ask that at all really.

I expected a hyper active insanly colorfull display on extremly fanatical anime and cosplay people in japan, but it ended up to be so powerful more than that, and has some depth.

I care for finding these movies, becouse i havent gone to japan and i so very noteworthy wish to go, and this is heavenly powerful all i have to glance into a country and a culture ive loved for a long time.

Its 45 minutes long, and though i view that would be too short, it ended up that it seemed to be unprejudiced the proper length. Regardless though, i wish i could search for more of stuff like this. I want another dvd by these people, i wanna ogle more, i would savor a allotment 2.

If you appreciate japanese culture and appreciate the anime lifestyle and dream of someday going to japan or even living there…this is one of the few resources i have seen out there that gave me a observe into anything regarding japanese day to day life…. so if you treasure this stuff…its definatly worth getting.

I want more japanese documentaries like this. I hope AnimeWorks plans more volumes of this.

Lastly, i mediate people who have ever found inspiration or influence through anime, through out life, will portray to this dvd. And dont forget, its laughable aswell. So, have fun watching it. Its a dinky fancy.

I’m glorious positive that if you’re reading this review, then you are a Street Fighter fan. I know there’s a chance that you’re unprejudiced an anime fan in general, but chances are if you’re after something this specific, then you’re a fan of the game series. Well, I am too. I savor SF to death, and I treasure this movie too.

First of all, I cannot understand why anyone would rob the SFII Engrossing Movie over this one. About the only redeeming factor of that movie was the fight scenes – but if you’re anything like me, then the position is quite significant also; I can’t glean indignant or even really care if the people on the camouflage are impartial fighting for no evident reason. Enter SF Alpha.

Buy,Download, Or Stream Street Fighter Alpha – The Movie! Click Here

Plot – First and foremost, the status. Where everyone who has written previous reviews gets off saying that the position sucks is lost on me. To sum it up: Ryu and Ken collect word that their master has been murdered. They return to Japan and are surprised to meet a young boy who inists that he is Ryu’s younger brother! Moreover, Ryu has been feeling a black, immoral power within him, one that he isn’t distinct he can overcome. From there, they stare a menace has been preying on street fighters the world over, capturing them and sapping all of their energies, under the disguise of some kind of tournament. Many characters are met along the plot, and all are portrayed exactly like you would expect; no one says or does anything out-of-character, but that by no means makes the experience a shallow one. Rather, it makes it an delightful one. Yes, Akuma makes an apperance – but no, he and Ryu do not fight. This did not disapoint me as noteworthy as I idea it might, mostly because Akuma tells Ryu that he must arrive wait on and challenge him when he is ready.

Animation – Pleasant. Fluidly done and totally appropriate. I have no genuine gripes about it, aside from wanting the whole time for Ryu to build on a red headband, but that’s so minor it’s not even a complaint. The scenes where Ryu briefly succumbs to the unlit energy are particularly well done, as are most of the fight scenes. Each fight scene is done in a stylish, over-the-top device, but not so powerful that you consider it’s too deceptive to be absorbing. The character designs are large – each character looks his or her best, with the overall style clearly influenced by the designs of the video game namesake.

Buy,Download, Or Stream Street Fighter Alpha – The Movie! Click Here

Voice acting – Also very well-done. I was so shy that the young boy who claims to be Ryu’s minute brother would have an annoying, nasaly, little-kid announce, but thankfully I had no reason to terror. He is voiced by an accomplished anime grunt actor – I judge it was the same person who voiced Jim from “Outlaw Star”. Ryu had a suitably deep, thoughtful protest. Ken was perfect – he could go from odd and funny to serious without sounding like a totally different person. Sakura was a estimable bewitch, as were Chun-Li and even Akuma. Akuma’s lines were terse and proper, which is edifying since he would not likely blather on, and the actor had a shadowy, intense, punching sound to his lines.

Music – Unremarkable. All the tunes fit the situations, but they won’t derive stuck in your head.

Overall – Fun, spirited, and suprisingly deep. This won’t disappoint anyone who liked the alpha games, nor should it disappoint anyone who likes Street Fighter in general. This one was a champ.

“Street Fighter Alpha: the movie” is a no bear free for all filled with handsome animation, amazing fight scenes and decent music. Where the film falls short is in a sometimes overpredictable memoir. The stammer cast does a obedient job. Yet I was dissapointed that Ryu never fought Akuma in this film. Compared to “Street Fighter II: THE MOVIE” this film is quite a few steps down. Yet for those of us whom have loved the game and the anime since it arrived this is a fun film that is a worth watching. Trace only diehard Street Fighter fans should assume the DVD. Anyone else woulf\d be better renting this movie. This film acquire no rating yet I would rate it PG-13 for non-stop martial arts violence, and some gore.

I highly recommend this DVD about Japan in the Second World War. The film does a mammoth job in both the footage and fable in exploring the Japanese viewpoint of the war. What is also very titillating is the color footage in the film. Most of the footage shown about the war in the Pacific is murky and white, or colorized. This documentary film is precise color footage. Not restored dismal and white into color: But the right deal here. The film does an first-rate job in showing Japan’s experience in the war.

Buy,Download, Or Stream Japan’s War in Colour! Click Here

Moreover, the narration is very, very generous. You also have first-person accounts of the events of the war: which I have also found to be a plus in any documentary. Necessary evidence, be it paper documents or the men who witnessed these historic events give a grand more quick-witted characterize when discussing historic events. The pictures in the film are fantastic. Almost 95% is in color. And I might add, this footage has never been seen before.

There is also bonus material included in the DVD called “The Last Bomb” which detail the planning and massive attacks of the then Army Air Force on the city of Tokyo. The film shows air combat footage of the Air Force in color. I have seen many of these types of films while I served in the U.S Air Force many years ago, however, this footage compliments the entire rest of the documentary film. There is also footage of the Pacific Campaign dealing with the varoius battles, such as Iwo Jima. Plus, there is footage of post-war Japan, which many documentaries do not focus on, when discussing the war. The DVD is highly recommended.

If there ever was one film that effectively captures and encapsulates Japan’s wartime experience, this DVD is it–hands down.

Buy,Download, Or Stream Japan’s War in Colour! Click Here

Narration and editing is absolutely phenomenal. Combined with first-person story of events amplifying the footage, this film relentlessly draws the viewer in.

And, oh, what pictures! Virtually 95% of color footage is never before seen, and even startled to survey what I always believed to be B/W playing out in color. These are safe color footages and NOT colorized B/W stock.

Bonus material includes a complete War Department Oscar nominated color documentary “The Last Bomb” that chronicles the planning and attack on the city of Tokyo by the U.S. Army Air Force. It contains fantastic air combat gun camera footage–in color!

DVD also includes 3 selections of unique color footage not dilapidated in the main program: Battle for the island of Iwo Jima, Hiroshima & Nagasaki after the atom bombs, and smart street scenes of Japan during the postwar period.

A must-own DVD (the notice is just, too) .

WARNING: Contains uncensored/unsanitized film footage. Graphic scenes may not be pleasurable for some. Viewer discretion is advised.

It’s dark that such a qualified anime got butchered so badly by the American distributor Viz. On the advanced copy I was able to watch thanks to Shonen Jump, I was instantly able to deny that this was definitely an improper version of what Naruto the anime could have been. The yell acting stunk (it’s big to here those neutral tones in moments of dread), the kid-friendly editing was unneeded (especially since most of the kids who are watching this on TV have already read the manga), and there wasn’t a Japanese track. If this is good for the upcoming release of this anime, then it spells instant doom for Naruto the anime, because it unbiased isn’t worth watching in the English track.

Buy,Download, Or Stream Naruto, Vol. 1 – Enter Naruto! Click Here

That being said, I will say that Naruto is possibly my accepted manga. It outranks even the traditional manga I tend to read (Berserk, Hellsing, Death Brand), which says something about the memoir of this manga. So all of you fan-boys and girls out there who are going to vote this review as unhelpful because I said something negative about you current, Naruto, judge again. I’m fighting for Naruto, which was given an ill-luck chance on this side of the world with this anime release. I consider Viz was more out to get money than anything, something an anime studio should not do because it alienates honest fans of anime. By making it the method they did, they were able to sell it to Cartoon Network, and they could subsequently release the Uncut version after people have already bought the first couple volumes of the chop one.

If I was you, a Naruto fan enthusiastic in the anime, I’d wait for the uncut version to be released. If luck is with us, the Japanese track will be on that version, the just version, and we won’t have to listen to the abominable American jabber acting, plus we’ll net the pudgy Naruto the diagram it was meant to be seen. Don’t assume this; it fair isn’t worth the time and money.

Naruto is hasty becoming one of the best anime ever. It’d be too long to justify the entire myth, so this is objective the basic outline.

Buy,Download, Or Stream Naruto, Vol. 1 – Enter Naruto! Click Here

The myth revolves around a boy named Naruto (duh) . As a puny child, he had no parents, no friends and everybody (except for the Hokage and Iruka-sensei) in Konoha vilage hated him because of his awful secret (which he himself did not know) : inside of him was a sealed ‘Kyuubi’ or demon fox.

Naruto only had one dream: one day, he was going to surpass the level of Hokage (the highest ninja in Konoha village) and effect everyone reply his exsitence.

So, after finally graduating from the Ninja Academy, he is effect into a three-man team so as to launch his hands-on trainging as a steady ninja and to complete missions.

In his team are Haruno Sakura and Uchiha Sasuke. There’s of course the classic japanese like triangle: Sakura loves Sasuke while Naruto loves Sakura. Of course, Sakura thinks Naruto is annoying and Sasuke thinks Sakura is annoying.

They are then assigned a teacher: Hatake Kakashi, a super-cool, strong guy who enjoys reading books like “Flirting Paradise” and “Make-out Violence”. Together with his team, they support their village and other villages by completing missions that can range from weeding someone’s garden, to a uncertain escort to another village.

The astronomical thing about this anime is that it’s as great Sasuke’s narrative as Naruto’s. Sasuke wants to become stronger so that he can waste his brother, Itachi, who single-handedly wiped out the entire Uchiha clan, leaving only Sasuke alive to become stronger and ruin him. Even though this is slightly screwed up, the fable slack it is very gripping and dusky.

Through the memoir, you’ll meet other challenging characters.

As Naruto is coming out on Toonami this summer, the only reason I’d examine it is to gape how dismal the narrate acting will be and to discover how remarkable they prick out.

This is an excelent anime, and I’d recommend it for anyone, though younger children should remove care as there is violence, blood, some swearing and some very unruffled sexual humor.

There are currently 138 episodes out from Japan (not on T.V.) and I really adore this anime. Any anime fan who likes action, comedy (and a minute romance) should check this out. Tall ninja action, the will to become stronger to protect those precious to you (or to acquire revenge for your fallen clan) and the feeling of smart your approved are unbiased some elements in the awsome demonstrate. The awsome music by Toshiro Masuda is only matched by the grand opening and endings from various extremely talented artists.

* Live Action Featurette – This takes position after the television series with Alphonse Eric in his armor construct in live/real Japan searching for Ed.

* Chibi Party – This is a comical sharp short in which the characters are in orderly deformed mode (chibi-small character mode) and celebrating after the filming of “Fullmetal Alchemist the Movie: Conqueror of Shamballa”.

* Kids – We perceive three children who eye so similar to the Elric brothers and Winry Rockbell. But who are they?

VIDEO & AUDIO:

For the most piece, there is of course animation differences with one being mature for a Universal Studios Japan paddle in Japan, one that is spruce deformed format and another that actually looks quite frigid with its fair backgrounds and vibrant colors. The video is featured in 4:3 standard definition.

The audio is featured in English 5.1 Surround Sound and Japanese Stereo. The majority of the action sequences can be heard in the interactive anecdote but dialogue and music comes quite definite through your front channel speakers and center channel.

Subtitles are in English.

SPECIAL FEATURES:

The special features featured on the “FULLMETAL ALCHEMIST: PREMIUM OVA COLLECTION” DVD include the following:

* Recent Japanese TV commercial (with English subtitles) – (:41) The Japanese TV commercial for “Fullmetal Alchemist the Movie: Conqueror of Shamballa”.

* Textless ending theme – (4:03) The ending theme for the anime shorts and video clips of Universal Studios Japan. Also, optional romanized and translated subtitles for the ending theme song.

* Trailers – Trailers for upcoming FUNimation Entertainment releases

When it comes to a approved series such as “Fullmetal Alchemist” and other well-liked long-running series, these OVA’s are typically for the fans of the entertaining series and/or the mutter talent. You either net a solid half hour of a storyline (that may or may not recount to the anime series) or an OVA that puts your approved characters in a recent set that may be beefy of humor and all-out fun! The latter is indeed the case for the “FULLMETAL ALCHEMIST: PREMIUM OVA COLLECTION”.

For the interactive segment, it may be hard to imagine a sail with video (for those who never experienced it) but with my experience of riding a few in Japan, I can say it’s comparable for those who have attended such move at Disneyland or Disney World, where you are shifted around through a dart (that is not like a rollercoaster but its constantly inviting) while watching a storyline progress.

I could imagine after watching the Interactive Experience of how icy this paddle may have been. For the most piece, the interactive experience was quite fun to contemplate and recognize everyone together in battle. Not being piece of the hobble and watching it on DVD is smooth fun and savory but I could only imagine how the interactive plod could have been during the action sequences.

For the engaging shorts, fans of the anime series and film will definitely get these three shorts quite toothsome and comic. They are short in duration but for the most fragment, my well-liked would have to be “Kids” which has an ending that may surprise fans.

Overall, “FULLMETAL ALCHEMIST: PREMIUM OVA COLLECTION” is a fun, scrumptious and satisfying collection of shorts. It’s also powerful more exquisite smart that retail stores are selling this for $10-$14, so it is quite affordable. If you are a tall fan of the anime series, this DVD deserves to be portion of your “Fullmetal Alchemist” collection!

It’s tough to argue with the widespread adoration that developed from seemingly thin air (lame pun, I know) over Fleshy Metal Alchemist. In a sense, I’ve often viewed the franchise as a bit of an Asian/ anime counterpart to the hysteria over Harry Potter we’ve endured here in the States. And while I haven’t considered myself a dedicated fan of the series per say, I have enjoyed its unusual premise and solid presentation in each encounter I’ve had thus far. Enter Chubby Metal Alchemist, Premium OVA Collection from Funimation. Based on the title alone, I really expected this release to be the definitive OVA collection of the franchise but with a total runtime of objective over a half hour, something didn’t feel quite lawful about that theory. But before I secure ahead of myself, let’s talk a bit about the frosty hard facts.

Released across a single disc packaged within a standard dvd case, Chubby Metal Alchemist Premium OVA Collection comes in at a total runtime of 35 minutes and wears an appropriate TV PG (13+) rating.

Language options are of typical sub & dub variety meaning the choice of current Japanese dialog audio presented in stereo or an English dub track in Dolby Digital 5.1, and the option of running English subtitles within either.

Typically at this point of my anime reviews, I would seize a moment to focus on the extras contained within but to be completely fair, this entire disc is essentially a collection of extras in and of itself; so let me remove the easy arrangement out by following the press release in saying that extras include novel TV commercials, textless closing song, and some Funimation trailers.

That said, the “feature” here actually consists of four snips of Fat Metal Alchemist that could, realistically, have been packaged as extras on any one of the series or prior OVA releases if for nothing else, due to the fact that all of them together only equal a half hour of entertainment. I will rupture the four pieces down in the order in which they are presented on the menu:

1) The Interactive Experience

This portion of the DVD consists of six exiguous lecture segments (a pre-show, zones 1-4, then a post-show) that basically bag the viewer up to hasten on the Chubby Metal Alchemist universe by addressing the viewer directly. The goal of this come, presumably, was to emulate the feeling of military briefings but long-standing fans of the point to will certainly be disappointed in the simple and lackluster recapping contained here. Calling the experience “interactive” is certainly a bit of a stretch but in this segment’s defense, at least some of the humor works aesthetic well.

2) The Live Action Featurette

Great potential lost to time restraints and unique presentation. This segment is exactly what it sounds like; a live action small film where a character from the reveal attempts to visit Bones studio for answers on the meaning of his existence. Definite it sounds frosty but the fact that it’s only about two minutes long really cuts down on the storytelling element. Fans will be left wanting more and non-fans of the series that happen to be in the room will eye at you as if you’ve lost your mind (which, may or may not be the loyal case) . Either diagram, everyone is determined to be disappointed.

3) Chibi Wrap Party (Short)

This segment is classified as a short and that’s fair what it is. It’s a completely moving Fleshy Metal Alchemist entry of the slightly clean deformed (SD) variety with decent assert work in both the current Japanese dialog and the English dub. If I could have had any input on this entire project, I would definitely have tried to net more of this stuff just here.

4) Kids (Short)

Finally we have another racy short- this time literally about three minutes long in which the year 2005 witnesses Edward Elric’s 100th birthday party. There isn’t considerable dialog here in either language option (then again the runtime would only allow for a sentence or two anyway) but the artwork here more closely resembles that of the recent FMA series (bright away from the desirable deformed peep of Chibi Wrap Party) with comely skies and rich textures. Again, the biggest flaw is that it’s short- too short in fact for anyone who happens to accumulate themselves without a unpleasant case of ADD.

In all, this will surely be a considerable miniature collector’s portion to diehard Chubby Metal fans who’ve been awaiting an official Set 1 release of these nearly legendary Japanese segments but the rest of the anime community at stout will likely catch dinky redeeming quality about a release (especially one called the Premium OVA Collection) that is barely a half hour long. Preserve in mind that a proper fraction of the total 35 minutes from inaugurate to attain is a simple recap up to novel events and the fact becomes painfully determined that this collection will likely raze up only on the wish-list of the hardcore FMA fan who seeks every single release.

A kindly romantic comedy, “Maison Ikkoku”, Vol. 1, kicks off this uniquely Japanese story; but the appeal of this timeless classic is universal. Heroine, Kyoko Otonashi, ranked this year as one of the top 5 heroines of anime by a poll of 10,000 adults taken by a major Japanese newspaper. Which is saying something considering that this explain ended 15 years ago.

Maison Ikkoku is a bustle down apartment building in Tokyo. Living there is struggling and wishy-washy college student Yusaku Godai, who falls head over heels in like with the graceful, young manager of the building, Kyoko Otonashi. Kyoko has some feelings towards Godai, but she’s a widow, and level-headed is not over the death of her beloved husband, Soichiro.

Complicating matters between the two are rich, suave, hysterically dog-phobic, and resplendent tennis coach Shun Mitaka, Godai’s rival for Kyoko; and Kozue Nanao, a sweet, cute, and naive girl, who accidently becomes Godai’s platonic girlfriend. Kozue is clueless that Godai is in like with Kyoko.

The crowning touch is the 3 other residents of the apartment building: hard drinking, hard partying and hard gossiping Mrs. Ichinose, who lives with her young son Kentaro; Akemi, a sexy party animal who is the bar hostess at local hangout ChaChaMaru, wearing her see-through negligee around the building; and then there’s the mysterious Yotsuya, who gets his kicks out of peeping, and breaking through Godai’s wall so that he can mooch food from Godai. These characters would be at home in “A Confederacy of Dunces”.

All 3 regard Godai as their personal toy, and they find their kicks from teasing him and holding their drinking parties in his room. They also witness that Kyoko is also fun to tease.

The only problems with this DVD release is Viz. Viz has long mishandled MI, and the DVD release is no exception. No subtitles for the opening closing numbers (the opening number is quite nice, too), no extras other then textless versions of the opening and closing, but most of all, no cultural notes whatsoever. ADV and Animego would’ve done edifying justice to this display. Maison Ikkoku is location in Japan in the 1980s, the sincere time that the 15 volume manga which was the basis for the anime; the result is one of the best examinations of regular life in Japan. MI is so quintessentially Japanese, that a number of anime reference books exhaust the series to highlight aspects of Japanese culture.

However, the humor and romance will appeal to anyone with a sense of humor, or romance. The funny usage of misunderstandings is straight from Shakespeare, and any fan of screwball comedies will be rolling on the floor with laughter. But the characters are grounded in reality, and moments of drama and romance will often steal you by surprise. Godai matures as the series progresses, he’s only 19 when the series starts, and we witness Kyoko overcome the massive loss she suffered.

The only major bone to prefer with the series is the dub version. Viz did a faulty job casting Ellen Kennedy in the role of Kyoko: her converse projects Kyoko as being tough cookie – it’s not the protest of someone 21-22 years musty. Sumi Shimamoto, however, is perfect, sweet, innocent, the perfect lady – which makes her shows of strength, stubbornness, jealousy and exasperate all the more effective. The English VA for Godai is not as dreadful as the English version of Kyoko, but he’s not as well-behaved as Issei Futamata, who makes you understand why the gals are fervent in him, while also playing the klutz quite well. The rest of the stutter cast, English and Japanese, are fine.

Despite these problems, the result is a DVD release which is vastly fine in every detail to the fansubbed versions which are available. The restored print is broad, and the subtitles are both smart and a helpful translation. But the heart of any DVD is the anecdote itself. By any standard, this 12 episode release for a retail designate of $49.99, is reasonably priced, especially when it can be obtained for less.

The first 12 episodes introduce the distinguished characters, and are a grand example of the natural story-telling style of Japanese cinema: Where an American display would introduce all the major characters in the first episode, as well as the major status issues, these are effectively spread out over this DVD, introducing the key characters. These episodes came out in 1986, and the age is noticeable, compared with more fresh releases. However, due to the nature of this demonstrate, it does not age badly, and some of the background art is beautiful.

A few notes: Godai’s hiding in the closet in episode 1 is a parody on Japanese creation mythology: the sun goddess hid in a cave, only drawn out by the party caused by another goddess striping outside. The dog, Soichiro. Listen, and you will hear him called “Soichiro-san”. The Japanese honorific “-san”, is broken-down only for people, and equals at that, never on a pet dog, which is why the name produces curiosity from cast members.

A tremendous series, this DVD spot is a must have for anyone involved in Japan, any fan of creator Rumiko Takahashi, (Ranma, Inu-Yasha), as it is her best work, IMHO, or any lover of comedy, romance or the combination thereof.

I originally watched Maison Ikkoku from the Arctic Animation fan subtitles sometime in the early 1990′s, and I’ve been in fancy with it ever since. I assume (and many people piece this idea) that Maison is Rumiko Takahashi’s best manga and best anime, and that’s saying a lot, since Takahashi has penned blockbusters like Ranma, Urusei Yatsura, and Inuyasha.

The memoir is about a boarding house called Ikkoku-kan where a hapless student Yusaku Godai lives, along with a hard-drinking housewife Ichinose-san, her son Kentaro, a bizarre and secretive man Yotsuya-san who is constantly frustrating Godai, and Akemi Roppongi who is a sultry hostess at a local tavern. The tenants of Ikkoku-kan continuously torture Godai: they prevent him from studying, eat all his food, and party all night long.

Into this nightmare moves in a unusual apartment manager, Kyoko Otonashi. She is young and blooming and Godai is instantly infatuated with her. The rest of the series is Godai trying to rep the worship of Kyoko over Shun Mitaka, a local tennis coach who also is in adore with Kyoko. And despite the interference of the Ikkoku-kan residents!

It doesn’t sound like great to inaugurate, and surely this first 12 episode space proceeds slowly, but the storyline is well-developed, and the characters are heartfelt. My friends forced me to scrutinize the first 8 episodes, and after that I was curved. But I’m guessing that if you’re pondering buying this series, then you probably have a expedient belief about the position and tale and such, and want some technical information.

The transfer is good. This series aired on TV in the ’80′s and that’s certain from the animation quality, but the job done on the DVD import is friendly, probably as fine as you could glean in Japan. The Japanese audio track is mono because that’s how it was broadcast. But it has advantageous sound quality and is very crisp.

I abhor dubbing, but for the sake of this review, I watched it. I don’t like it, but as far as dubs go, it’s passable. I would discourage watching the dub though because this demonstrate is SO Japanese that it relies a lot on the Japanese language itself.

The DVD’s have essentially no extras or features. It is fair the episodes. It’s quiet a suitable deal, considering 12 episodes a region for ~$45. There should be a total of 8 sets (96 eps) . I occupy 1-5, and opinion on acquiring the rest.

My main criticisms of this collection:

(1) This series is so very Japanese that you HAVE to clarify some things. For example, in the American mind, a ronin is a samurai without a master. In the unique Japanese mind, it’s someone who’s failed the college entrance exams. This DVD spot NEEDS technical notes.

(2) The DVD liners are not that useful.

(3) The English dialogue loses a lot of intricacies above and beyond simple loss of Japanese. Takahashi is a mammoth fan of puns and such, and this is all lost. Most well-known is the loss of Yotsuya’s poor poetry, including numerous attempts at haiku, often coming a syllable short or long.

Still, Viz actually did a suitable job with this, and I’m planning on buying the whole place. But for your sake, here are some technical notes.

Numbers:

Most of the cast has names with numbers.

Otonashi means “no sound” in kanji and the “no” allotment would be like zero, or the numberless manager’s room.

Ichinose – ichi = 1, corresponding to room #1.

Nikaido – ni = 2 (he is only in the manga)

Mitaka – mi = 3. Mitaka is also a rich district of Tokyo, signifying that the character is well to do, and would never live in a spot like Ikkoku-kan, thus room #3 is vacant. It would be like saying Mr Beverly Hills.

Yotsuya – yo = 4. As is room #4

Godai – go = 5. As in room #5

Roppongi – Ro (or roku) = 6. Roppongi is also an entertainment district of Tokyo, signifying her job as a hostess at a bar and her personality. Akemi means red beauty (since she’s a red-head) .

Nanao – nana = 7.

Yagami – Ya = 8.

Kujo – ku = 9.

Chigusa – chi = 1000.

A ronin is a term for student who have failed the college entrance exams and are trying to net in, often attending cram schools.

A care for hotel is a hotel you go with a partner to have sex. It’s like a hotel you’d rent a room by the hour. This is because a lot of Japanese households are extended, and you wouldn’t have the privacy to be intimate at home.

The sage is status in 1980′s Tokyo and there are some facets worth mentioning. Most people do not occupy cars. This is a ample spot symbol for Mitaka. Many homes do not have baths, and so people go to public baths. In the bath, Japanese like soaking in nearly scalding hot water. Trains are the principal mode of long distance move in Tokyo, so it is often featured in the anime. Despite being a bay city, Tokyo has no beaches per se, and so it is a long dawdle to go to a beach despite being next to the ocean. Many people in Tokyo have ‘home towns’ and aren’t Tokyo natives (such as Godai) . Often, Tokyo natives had a sense of a lack of this ‘home town’ feeling, and a recurring theme in the storyline is how Ikkoku-kan has a feeling of home.

So what does it ake to derive one such as me to recommend the umpteenth version of the classic Romeo and Juliet fable of star-crossed lovers when every avenue has been explored? Three words: fair add ninjas. Actually, that’s not delicate. This is no mere family feud. This is a brutal conflict between ninja clans in the aftermath of the Warring States period of weak Japan. This anime is based on a manga which was based on a 1958 Japanese current which was also adapted into an righteous live action film, Shinobi – Heart Under Blade. In it, the Tokugawa Shogunate invites the Iga and Kouga ninja clans to choose which of the shogun’s grandchildren will succeed him. The contest: a 20-man/woman battle to the death. This is complicated by the fact that Hattori Hanzo’a cease-fire pact between the two competing clans has kept them from each other’s throats while both have been in service to the Shogunate. But with the country unified, what spend is there for two clans of spies and assassins anymore? The conflict between Kouga and Iga had been long and bloody and now all of the the tension was dwelling to explode. 10 people from each side, last man or woman standing determines the victor and the shogun’s successor. But the complications are complicated by yet another factor. The successor to the Iga clan’s leadership, a pleasing but unskillful girl named Oboro is residence to wed the Kouga clan’s successor, Gennosuke, in an attempt to permanently heal the worn wounds. And now with the government has gone and ordered the two clans to slaughter one another once again. What’s a warrior of the shadows in like to do?

If you notion Ninja Scroll was something, then prepare to be blown away. This is one of the best anime series out there. Period. The characters are memorable, the supernatural ninjitsu powers are utilized to outstanding ends, the art is improbable to view upon, and the account is as heart-rending, delicate, and violent as it is action-packed. You really secure to know the 20 shinobi warriors (double the film’s cast) before they meet their invariably monstrous demises. You feel every single death and every one of them is a devastating blow to Oboro and Gennosuke’s relationship. Aged hatreds boil over and used grudges kept hidden are brought encourage to the forefront as the two clans battle their contrivance to the palace where the survivor(s) will determine who is named the next shogun and the infighting in the government can waste.

Each warrior in “Basilisk” has a new personality and a supernatural power they wield. There’s Saemon who can imtiate the stutter and appearance of anyone, his tomboy sister Okoi who can suck the blood through skin-to-skin contact -making sexuality her most devastating weapon, the villainous Tenzen -host to a parasite that grants him immortality, and my approved, Hotarubi, who can summon up a swarm of stunning quick-witted butterflies and keeps a trained venomous snake up her sleeve impartial to name a few. As the area unfolds we learn about all of the relationships within each clan and pick up chances to gape both sides of the tale. An episode focusing on the level-headed days of the two clans is truly revealing and drives home that the characters are not simply one-dimensional killing machines, but caring individuals who were joyful playing with microscopic Oboro as a child or fishing at the creek before all this happened. Only when driven into this conflict do murderous intentions initiate to arise and once the killing starts, there is brutal vengeance all around. The time taken to craft and add meaning to these characters’ lives is fraction of what makes this a slash above any other ninja anime out there.

The anime’s finale is very different from the film’s and far wonderful. The destroy of the carnage brings a clear satisfied release to both the viewer and remaining characters and is damn romantic in my notion. Like any generous Shakespearean yarn, “Basilisk” ends with a lot of corpses, but also a feeling of having experienced a masterful epic that was perfectly paced and as satisfying as they reach. Anybody who hasn’t seen it should, and the same should be said for “Shinobi”. This is the furthest thing from racy cartoons for children; this is unbiased improbable entertainment in any construct.

This is a truely awesome series even if your not a fan of anime, the action and chronicle gargantuan and has some of the best quality when it comes to art that I have ever seen when it comes to anime, this is an instant classic and cult hit which can easily be compared with grand anime like Ninja Scroll and Akira.

It’s been fair over two years since I excitedly bought the season one place and I have anxiously awaited this ninth one, but at the same time it’s unusual to feel like this series is ending for me all over again. Nevertheless these episodes are action packed and a fitting ending for one of the most loved anime of all times. This spot contains the Fusion and Kid Buu sagas in these final 38 uncut episodes:

These episodes are all for the most section bright and a lot of them are fan favorites. The stakes really regain raised as everyone on the planet is set aside in immediate jeopardy soon after followed by the possible destruction of the planet earth itself. The final Kid Buu episodes are astronomical and accept the entire existence of life in the universe being threatened ratcheting everything up to it’s highest possible levels. The final episodes should be truly pretty for fans to rewatch or experience for their first time.

I’ve said before that I savor how these sets were made with an overall theme across the nine that line up well and scrutinize friendly together on a shelf. A well made booklet comes in each of these sets containing brief character bios and episode descriptions. The video is always well restored and in wonderful condition, presented as Widescreen 16:9 Aspect Ratio. The audio is stout with three different options:

American English Notify Track with American Music

American Sing Track with the Current Japanese Music

Original Japanese State Track with the Novel Japanese Music.

The only extras on these sets have been trailer’s for other Funimation productions and textless opening theme and ending credits.

These episodes are not honest the final saga to the Dragon Ball Z series but also to the Dragon Ball series that began it all. The storylines here aren’t impartial burly of the science fiction and hard hitting fights Dragon Ball Z was known for but also the elements of magic, fantasy and off beat humor that Dragon Ball was known for. Looking at these episodes now, they are the perfect ending to such an intriguing series that artfully managed to constantly escalate things through a seemingly natural course of events. After these episodes it seems hard to imagine more sage storylines for these particular character’s than what we’re given here.

This final place is bulky with equal amounts of the fighting fans examine as well as the elements of humor and fantasy that acquire this series so loved, fusing the two perfectly. Akira Toriyama ended his long running sage fittingly and satisfactorily for fans with these sagas all ending with a final nod towards the Goku we were introduced to plot serve at the originate of Dragon Ball, a Goku that looks at everything as a challenge and adventure.

I can’t wait until this space is released in May, thanks for your time.

Dragon Ball Z’s Final Chapters!

The Z fighters Battle, To Assume The Formidable Majin Buu Down In This Finale Of The Buu Saga. IT’S INDEED THE BEST Action Pack Season Place, Which Ends The Series OF DRAGON BALL Z!

Finally Funimations settle to be nice to us by releasing another Season Site and including all the remaining episodes of DBZ.

I aloof remember A couple years succor, when I spent almost $50 dollars impartial for the 5 DVD Spot that only included the Kid Buu saga, Not only were the Ragged DVD’s expensive and almost impossible to gain, there were also a total situation waster. Season nine dwelling is A must have! Not only is it cheaper, It’s a non-stop fierce action display, that never stops to lift it up to the next level, not even to the every Destroy. (It also helps that the size of the Plot doesn’t select up a lot of room like the Pervious 1999-2003 Sets.)

So, finally having the Comic Guys at FUNImations releasing very easy to derive Season Sets at $30 ticket range, obtain me want to slap my self for even attempting to find over 80 DVD’s of DBZ.

I really wish they would of released these Season Sets a long time ago and The contrivance they capture there sweet A$$ time to re-release this Series makes me wonder if there going to Re-re-release them again on (blu-ray) or try to release them like they did in Japan, with the Dragon Box which included all 291 Episodes in Two Gigantic Box Sets and also included a expansive amount of DVD EXTRAS!!! Hmm…. Funimations! the ball’s in your court!

“Let’s Rock Again!” tells the myth of Joe Strummer, a man who ended up having to remind the world that “I was in the Clash.” Dick Rude’s film, shot in 2001 and 2002, followed the onetime punk star and his current band, the Mescaleros, as they toured the States and Japan. It covers the 18 months before the singer’s death of a heart defect.

The film and DVD extras expose Strummer signing endless autographs while listening to fans swear how he changed their lives. “Everybody’s got a sage to relate,” Strummer explains. “You can’t speed them along.” Shameful calls his musty friend “a born sweetheart.”

Strummer took a decade off after the Clash went supernova. His young band was a hard sell, but the music was edifying and his shows made fans ecstatic with “nuggets from the past.” The main DVD extra is a treat: Strummer and the boys working through “The Harder They Arrive” and dub-era Clash songs like “Armagideon Time.”

Director Outrageous did a 15-minute Q&A session at the Tribeca film festival, included here as an extra. He tells the audience it was “very difficult for me to crop this movie” after Strummer died.

Other extras have Strummer talking about his life on the road. “Performing is partly joy and partly alarm, and you have to be able to deal with both emotions. It takes a lot of spirit to obtain.” One of the last extra clips has Strummer considering the death of another punk star, Joey Ramone: “It doesn’t seems exact. … He was one of the best.”

Images are full-screen; audio is in stereo. The presentation is suitable enough, despite some here-and-there synch problems.

A very brief review: If you both like and respect Joe Strummer … if you realize that he invented his maintain mold and then broke it to remain utterly novel AND if you savor wonderfully tantalizing music that aloof can kick you in the gut, THEN YOU NEED TO CLICK THAT “Catch BUTTON” arrive the top of this page and bring “LET’S ROCK AGAIN!” into your home. Don’t be fooled by the title – it takes on a whole unique meaning when you hear Joe say it advance the kill of the film. One immense caveat for those who Esteem Mr. Strummer. As satisfied as the music is and as enraptured as Joe seems when he’s playing it with this extraordinary band of brothers that he’s assembled, there is an underlying sadness to the film that you wish could be wiped away. This epic was supposed to be a fairy tale; one with a contented ending where Joe is sitting on his porch at age 85 teaching London’s original breed of punks what matters and what doesn’t. Watching Joe dig and scratch for airtime by glad-handing dunderheaded button-pushing dj’s seems tragic and backwards. They should be bowing before him and feverishly explaining how “The Call Up” changed their perspective on everything – but like I said, this isn’t that fairy yarn. Joe always knew it was all about the music and so he did his glad-handing with pride and dignity … for the chance at one more go in the studio … and another tour … and another chance to joyfully blow out his verbalize in honor of THE TRUTH and all the working musicians who went before him. This film makes me miss him all the more – and in a peculiar and unfair plan, that’s grand.
