As for the audio, the series is featured in Dolby Digital 5.1 Surround Sound. JUDGMENT CALL:

“Dirty Sexy Money” was a series that I really enjoyed when it first aired on television. The first season showed promise but it was such a shame that the WGA Writer’s Strike really place a damper on the series. Not only was the series chop short but its schedule was too erratic.

By the time it came help on television for season 2, it was already ten months later. Too noteworthy time had passed since the finale and to fabricate things worse, when the second season did air, again the season was out of whack as the final five episodes took several months to air after it was reported that the series was canceled. Needless to say, the series did not have worthy of a chance to salvage support on its feet.

After watching “Dirty Sexy Money – The Complete and Final Second Season”, not only did I relish it, it was bittersweet because the series ends with a major bombshell and you know there are no future episodes to continue the storyline.

Overall, I feel that fans of the series can score some closure with this final DVD spot and net some satisfaction from the final 13 episodes. As mentioned, the final episode was quite captivating and again, it’s a shame that the series will not be continued.

As for the characters, I found them all quite captivating and you eventually become drawn to that character’s storyline. I was also drawn by the drama and the multiple infighting between the characters, and it’s quite involving because one can derive similarities with this drama series to 80′s drama series such as “Dallas” and “Dynasty” which involve corporate greed, families that were born with luxury and of course, those few characters on the outside who seem to hate that lifestyle.

I felt that the trimming of the first season down to 10 episodes possibly took away from noteworthy needed character development and for the second season, although I enjoyed the series, I did have some problems with seeing the disintegration of Cut and Lisa’s marriage but also seeing this somewhat unlikely storyline engaging Simon Elder and Nola Lyon. It was a bit farfetched and in someways, I unbiased felt that the character of Simon seemed a bit too young to be the rival of Tripp Darling and therefore, for me, it hindered the storyline as these two rich corporate behemoths would go against each other. It impartial didn’t seem suitable.

I did bask in the share of Karen Darling because her character could have been handled as the typical socialite (ie. which fits the character of Juliet Darling) but easily redeems herself as a person that wants to be appreciate and wants to savor someone. So, it was quite keen to leer how her character started to evolve through the second season.

As for the DVD release, “Dirty Sexy Money – The Complete and Final Second Season” does feature solid narrate quality for a drama series on DVD and for the most portion, the series doesn’t have awful lighting issues or heavy noise during low-light conditions that some drama series tend to have. I felt that the plot earn and even the costume originate was well-done for the series and capturing that style and feel of the rich Darling family and their living location. Audio was quite certain and there are a few special features included. Although, I do wish there was some sort of commentary track included, especially for the final episode.

Overall, fans who dedicated their time into watching “Dirty Sexy Money” will want to definitely check out this final second season if you happen to miss the episodes on television. Again, the final season will provide enough closure for the viewer but then instantly give you a feeling lawful at the raze of the final episode of wanting more.

It’s hard to recommend a TV series on DVD especially when the series has been canceled but for the most piece, fans who loved the series or those who missed out on how the series ended, will score “Dirty Sexy Money – The Complete and Final Second Season” satisfying but at the same time, a bittersweet feeling that you want even more “Dirty Sexy Money”, but lustrous that there will be no more continuing episodes.

I like this explain. How could they not have renewed it for additional seasons??

This charming exiguous romantic comedy directed by Melville Shavelson is one of the brightest spots in Sophia Loren’s early Hollywood films. He wisely faded Sophia’s comical talents which were often wasted by American directors. Having worked with her in another early gem, “Houseboat” with Cary Grant, Shavelson was aware of what would beget Sophia shine and here he showcases all of her many large charms.

The DVD is presented in a enchanting and glittering print of the fabulous cinematography of Robert Surtees. One of the spacious camera men who’s credits include 1962′s “Mutiny On The Bounty”, “Quo Vadis”, “Raintree County”, and “The Last Describe Demonstrate”. He captures breathtaking shots of little and teaming Naples and the vast sunny vistas of Capri. In his hands this aesthetic fragment of Italy becomes a pretty widescreen postcard that beckons the viewer into the anecdote.

The collect by Alessandro Cicognini (Indiscretion of an American Wife) and Carlo Savina is pure Italian gold and fits the amusing proceedings perfectly. And the addition of the song Tu Vuo Fa L’Americano in Sophia’s club act is profitable. This accepted Italian song of the 1950′s resurfaced effectively in “The Talented Mr. Ripley”. It is fun to view how Sophia interprets the song for the tourists on Capri.

Clark Gable, cast as stodgy American Michael Hamilton is gruff and amusing as he first battles and then falls for Sophia. He has many standout scenes with her and with child actor, Marietto. In particular is the scene where he and Sophia mix killer drinks for each other at the bar.

Marietto as Sophia’s nephew Nando is a minute amusing whirlwind. He is extraordinary in his naturalness in his scenes with Loren. A skinny ball of ingenuity and energy he is particularly droll when he is trying to earn his arrangement with both Loren and Gable.

The tremendous Italian director Vittorio De Sica nearly runs off with the cameras, spot and crew in his performance as Sophia’s lawyer. He works so well with her, and why not, he was her director in “Gold of Naples”, “Two Women” and the improbable “Yesterday, Today, and Tomorrow.” His speech in the courtroom scene is a standout.

All this fabulous talent surrounds Sophia Loren in what is really her demonstrate. She is pure magic as Lucia Curcio, a woman of passionate adore of life and family. She dominates the report as well she should because it is her talent as an actress and her improbable beauty that brought her to this point in her career. Her comedic turns and spend of Italian gestures turn this into a joyous romp for both her and the audience.

After viewing “It Started In Naples” you may obtain yourself singing. Tu Vuo Fa L’Italiano.

This is my celebrated movie with Sofia. She is at her most handsome and this is her most charming role. I am a colossal fan and I contain there will never be anyone as sensual with an accent that can actually negate, act and assume everyones attention the contrivance she did in this movie. The young boy Nando is also charming and captures the essence of Italian childhood in that time. I recomend this movie as a must gawk for anyone who was ever attracted to Sofia and Italy. The scenery is consuming and the yarn is attractive. Peep this movie and you’ll want to go visit Italy.

I saw this movie shortly after it came to video and idea it was a elegant genuine movie. Then a couple years later, I saw it again. And it unprejudiced kind of stuck in my brain. I’ll be reading or listening to something, and it will remind me of the movie. In conversations I bring up this film all the time because it is so relevant to essential issues of our time. Racism, vigilante action, correct issues, etc. The more you peer this movie, the more it makes you mediate.

And if you’re not keen in thinking about some of the larger philosophical issues at hand, there’s aloof plenty of stuff for you. You’ve got Matthew McConaughey who does a phenomenal job, and looks enormous while at it. Oliver Platt imbues his character with fair the upright amount of sleaze and charm that you can’t support but savor him. Donald Sutherland is absolutely lovable as the old-school gentleman (and you and your friends can argue over whether he’s a lush or or a drunk/alcoholic) . Sandra Bullock does a believable job, and the men tend to earn Ashley Judd rather sparkling in this role. And let’s not forget Samuel L. Jackson, who makes his character so trusty that you understand the spot he’s in and why he does what he does.

So basically, there’s something for everyone here. Thinking stuff with apt looking people (male and female) who act well. Can’t go gross with this one.

John Grisham novels are difficult to rate as movies. On one hand Grisham’s work translates to well to pop culture that his books are almost cinematic. On the other, the “book-is-never-as-good-as-the-movie”-ism applies. Some of Grisham’s books have been quite good- “The Firm” was a terrifically intelligent movie (Tom Waft was letter-perfect for the role of Mitch McDeere), and “The Rainmaker” (which gave Matt Damon his begin) certainly surprised me with a touching memoir of an underdog who upsets the system. Some have been mediocre to bad- “The Pelican Brief” and “The Chamber” fit the latter category, “The Client” the aged. “A Time to Extinguish”, in my plan, is the best of them all because the author gives his audience a tough choice to design about what justice is. Pack in some obliging acting performances and this is one fair darn worthy movie.

The station? After his young daughter is viciously raped and assaulted by rednecks (no, John Rocker doesn’t have a cameo), Samuel L. Jackson guns down the two assailents on their plan to court. He is subsequently achieve on trial by the local DA, and defended by an idealistic white attorney. Jackson’s trial becomes a swirling tempest for local hatreds to be aired.

Director Joel Schumacher certainly surprised me with genuine work, despite being the man who made “Batman & Robin”. It helps to assemble some serious acting talent- Samuel L. Jackson and Kevin Spacey (the DA) are both recognized actors (Spacey having won an Oscar for “The Usual Suspects”, and Jackson is *long* overdue for getting one himself), so the large surprise was Matthew McConaughey’s reliable performance as the idealistic, passionate attorney who defends Jackson. McConaughey is a terrific actor- laid encourage, easy-going but with impartial enough passion and intensity. This movie attach him on the method and it is easy to gaze why he is a talent in seek information from. Sandra Bullock and Ashley Judd have roles here but don’t produce mighty of an impression. Donald Sutherland and Keifer both have parts too- the outmoded as Matthew McConaughey’s mentor (a role he’s quite generous in, incidentally) and the latter as a local redneck.

Finally, a word about the plot: the best movies give us a sticky quandary that can’t be resolved easily. The tricky choice in “Crimson Tide” is a blooming example of a decision that could go either plan and gives the audience something to debate about afterwards. Here we’re given a tricky choice- vengeance or justice? Do we acquit Samuel L. Jackson because in our hearts he did what we all would do in his plot? Or do we punish him for taking the law into his acquire hands? It’s a rough choice to accomplish, and the movie refuses to give us an easy acknowledge.

Vertigo is one of those films that is so reliable, no one at the time of release is able to luxuriate in it. It was dismissed by critics, ignored by audiences and, to my knowledge, didn’t rep a single Academy Award (this last portion isn’t repulsive — Citizen Kane didn’t bag Best Narrate) . It’s appealing that the reputation of this film seems to have grown substantially since the public found out more about Alfred Hitchcock’s private life. For example, Scottie Ferguson’s obsession with Kim Novak mirrors Hitch’s believe obsession with glorious blondes, most notably Grace Kelly. Actors often bare their souls to the world, but very rarely are we aware when a director bares his/her soul. Those who dismiss Hitchcock as unbiased a taskmaster director of suspense films should sight Vertigo. He is essentially dealing with his acquire weaknesses and inner demons on film.

Vertigo also contains two big performances — those of James Stewart and Kim Novak. Stewart reveals a unlit side that might shock those who unprejudiced know him from Mr. Smith Goes to Washington and It’s a Improbable Life. He is completely believeable as a man (Hitchcock’s alter ego) who is consumed by obsession. Likewise Kim Novak is fantastic and totally convincing as Madeline/Judy. Vera Miles (Lila Crane in Psycho) was originally cast, but it’s hard to survey anyone else but Kim Novak in the role. She is utterly convincing as the distant, aristocratic Madeline AND as the earthy working class girl Judy. I can’t consider of many actresses who could be so effective in both roles. Grace Kelly, for example, might have been able to pull off Madeline, but probably would have been droll as Judy. It’s too unpleasant more directors couldn’t search for past Novak’s sex kitten image and cast her in more spacious roles.

In case you couldn’t guess, I highly recommend this DVD. The documentary about the restoration of the film is very spellbinding and makes you realize what a job it is to restore a film. The DVD edition also includes an ending that was only on the foreign release prints. This edition does Hitchcock’s masterpiece all the justice it deserves and then some.

Buy,Download, Or Stream Vertigo! Click Here

(An additional note: I live in the San Francisco Plot and have visited many of the locations featured in the film, including Madeline’s apartment, Muir Woods, Mission Delores, The Palace of the Legion of Honor and Fort Point. Unbiased to define for those of you who might be wondering: (1) there is no portrait of Carlotta at the Palace of the Legion of Honor and (2) there are no stairs leading down to the water at Fort Point — the stairs were an in-studio shot that enabled James Stewart to more easily fish Kim Novak out of San Francisco Bay.)

Vertigo is a large film; if rating the film alone, I would give it the maximum rating. Vertigo deserves to have been carefully restored and preserved for posterity. The reason for my uncouth rating for this DVD is that the restorers have seriously overstepped the bounds of conservation, actually changing the film for the worse. They have eliminated many modern sound effects and created many fresh ones, to jarring carry out. Evidently, their discovery of a stereo recording of the musical secure so angry the restoration team that they felt they had to incorporate it into the restored print. As the new mono mix included effects with the catch, this means that the restorers went into a Foley studio and cooked up replacement sounds–newpaper’s rattling, footsteps, doors closing, cars driving past, etc. The result is VERY noticable: the unusual, digitally recorded sounds have a sharply different quality from the analog originals, and the two are mixed together uneasily. The film was mixed, presumably under Hitchcock’s careful supervision, with a mono soundtrack, which has survived in satisfactory condition. (Although the individual elements were scandalously destroyed in the 1970s as the result of a tussle over distribution rights to the film.) The soundtrack may have benefitted from some “cleaning up,” but there was no obliging reason to perform a current soundtrack. Please, Universal: include the recent soundtrack as an option, at least, on future editions of this DVD. (The stereo recording of Herriman’s musical come by would originate a nice DVD bonus track, too.) And please be more circumspect in future restoration projects. (There are problems with the color restoration, too, but at least there the restorers were addressing a dependable problem–the existing prints and film elements had seriously deteriorated. With the soundtrack, the restorers actively created problems where none existed.)

I’m just difficult to kill…I guessstar40 tpng A Perfect Getaway Discount.
“I’m just difficult to kill, I guess…” – as soon as one of the main characters of A Perfect Getaway utters these words, you KNOW someone will try to prove him wrong. And they DO (try ;o) ). The story seems simple at first: a couple is honeymooning in Hawaii, while news spreads thru the Islands of a brutal murder of another newlywed couple. The suspected murderers, a man and a woman, are still at large and likely still in Hawaii. As our city-dwellers hike thru the Park, alone and out of their element, can they trust the strangers with whom they inevitably cross paths? (OF COURSE, NOT!) And that’s when an interesting twist takes this story from predictable to… well… no spoilers here! ;o)

I did not have high hopes for this flick…I went to see it mainly because I have a secret crush on Milla Jovovich (if I were a lesbian, Milla and Mariska Hargitay from Law and Order would be my dream dates ;-P…). Was the film perfect? No. Nonetheless, to my utmost surprise, I enjoyed this thriller far more then I did many supposed “blockbusters” this year. It had some laughs, but was also quite unnerving, tense, and creepy with a light sprinkling of gore: everything a good thriller should have on offer. There were signs from the audience that I was not alone in my enjoyment. However, the film did develop its creep factor slowly as the initial 45 minutes were devoted mainly to character development. The story needed time before it graduated from “fluff” to “nail biter”. It worked for me. In the end, I felt the super plot twist more then made up for the wait!

Two names are worth mentioning (in addition to Jovovich): it was the first time I saw Steve Zahn competently playing a complex “grown up” character, a role totally different from the usual “doofus” types he seems to favour. Also, Timothy Olyphant surprised me with his performance. His acting skills often leave a lot to desire. Not here. He was PERFECT as the perennially confident and “difficult to kill” owner of a metal plate in his head…

PS: David Twohy, writer/director, also directed Pitch Black. Watch the chase scene at the end of A Perfect Getaway. It is identical in style to one of the chase scenes in Pitch Black…

Guys… that was a perfectly good story.star40 tpng A Perfect Getaway Discount.
A Perfect Getaway: 7 out of 10: For a slow moving thriller that cheats… a little, A Perfect Getaway isn’t that bad. It has gorgeous cinematography and while it moves slowly, it successfully builds up tension with character development rather than relying on black cats jumping out of closets or severed body parts every ten minutes.

The tale is about three couples in Hawaii and one couple could be a pair of murders from the big island.

Our protagonist couple (Steve Zahn and Milla Jovovich) is a bit nerdy and a bit goofy. Jovovich in particular gives a wonderfully awkward performance in body language and facial expressions.

Trying to get into the Hawaii spirit our protagonist honeymooners attempt to do a favor for a second couple hitchhiking (Marley Shelton and Chris Hemsworth), but Hemsworth gives off such a bad vibe that the Zahn and Jovoich are naturally concerned about running into him on the trail again.

They take refuge with the “cool” couple (Timothy Olyphant and Kiele Sanchez). Olyphant in particular simply cascades charisma onto the screen even when attempting to convince others he has a plate in his head from his Special Forces days. But even the cool couple could just as easily be the killers (after all Olyphant seems to like fondling his special forces knife a bit two much and this is a movie.)

All this interaction is among well placed news reports that a non-nondescript couple is wanted for questioning for a murder and are suspected in being on the same trail as our plucky honeymooners.

Director Twohy isn’t back in Pitch Black form but he shows a surer directing hand than he did in Chronicles of Riddick and he gets better performances out of his actors than he did in Below. In fact for a movie with basically six people and very little action the film rests almost exclusively on the actor’s shoulders. The actors certainly hold up their end of the bargain across the board.

The movie does cheat a bit as I stated before but this is a thriller rather than a mystery (after all there are only three couples in the whole film) and the journey is more fun than the reveal. In fact the movie has such a relaxed pace and vibe you can easily forget it is a thriller at all. That’s when it gets you.

Lots of funstar40 tpng A Perfect Getaway Discount.
At first I was worried about the gore level (not for me, for the rest of the audience) as hinted at by other reviews, but it’s really minimal. And this is a fun thrill ride of a film, with a doozy of a twist. I guessed it halfway through, but you might enjoy it more if you don’t – and even if you do, the exposition is still interesting. Likeable characters you can root for, a decent script, better acting than you might expect, a twisted plot and great action towards the end make this a movie to enjoy.

“The Last Tycoon” is a thinly veiled retelling of the life of movie mogul Irving Thalberg. Thalberg made an unbelievable slew of motion pictures during his short rein as a producer and studio head in the 30′s. DeNiro’s Monroe Stahr is a mysterious, troubled individual who literally lives only for the movies he’s making. It seems his engaging with the cover makes him unable to communicate with the living all around him.

Writer Harold Pinter’s dialog rhythms only enhances the impression that Stahr is in this world but not of it. Ultimately Stahr’s intense devotion to appearance dove tails nicely with the themes examined in the book. Pinter fleshes out Fitzgerald’s unfinished recent nicely although the film has an unfinished quality as well.

As directed by Hollywood and Broadway former Elia Kazan (On The Waterfront, East of Eden, A Streecar Named Desire), The Last Tycoon isn’t an easy film to like; many of the characters seem vapid and self serving. In the character of Stahr we have a protagonist who isn’t really “there” at all. Which is precisely Kazan and Pinter’s point; The Last Tycoon is how image overwhelms substance but can’t become a substitute for living.

Kazan’s direction brings many of these characters to life providing a unusual peruse into the Hollywood studio system at its prime. Kazan and Pinter provide a captivating and disquieting watch into the American life of the glamorous and considerable of Hollywood during its heyday. It’s a sunless and tragic narrative which Kazan manages to inject with detached power.

The transfer is very nice although there are a few analog and digital artifacts. The compression artifacts are minimal, however and probably won’t be noticeable to most viewers.

There aren’t any extras provided. With the cast, writer and director enthusiastic you would inquire there to be something in Paramount’s vaults that could be included as an extra. There’s no audio commentary. Since Kazan was alive objective prior to the release of this film (September 2003) on DVD, I would have understanding he might have been asked to provide a commentary after all this was his last film. Additionally, it was produced by legendary independent producer Sam Spiegel with music by Maurice Jarre so from a historical perspective it’s a fairly necessary mainstream film. The Last Tycoon was the last gasp from a generation of film makers and, as such, deserved better.

While not a showcase like Kazan’s earliest motion pictures (he peaked as a film director in the 50′s with On The Waterfront and a handful of other classic films), The Last Tycoon manages to grasp the kill of an era and a tragic life in its all too brief 123 minutes with elegance and power.

The Last Tycoon is one of the last vestiges of obsolete Hollywood merging with unusual Hollywood. Adapted from the unfinished unusual by F. Scott Fitzgerald, it is an effective tribute to a time when the movie industry was in its infancy. As a fan of the novel book I can’t resolve whether my familiarity with it made me more inclined to like the film or not. I’ve decided that it did, but I can gawk where other Fitzgerald fans would deem otherwise.

Robert DeNiro stars as Monroe Stahr, a thinly veiled depiction of film pioneer Irving Thalberg, who is burdened by his overwhelming status as a studio production head, by the loss of his movie star wife, and by his outmoded heart. While DeNiro’s portrayal is the centerpiece of the film, there are several other elements interested which lend an extra aura of prestige. Directed by Elia Kazan, the film is technically competent, but, as it is based on a work which its modern author left incomplete, the ending is a bit forced and contrived. You can snarl that they had to arrive up with an ending without the resource of the author to execute it seamless. To lend additional sparkle, there are appearances by a multitude of stars such as Tony Curtis, Robert Mitchum, Ray Milland, and Theresa Russell who vie for mask time on the periphery of the main dwelling line absorbing Stahr’s encounter and subsequent infatuation with an extra, played by Ingrid Boulting, who is his lifeless wife’s twin. Mitchum in particular does a nice job as the studio boss, but all of them feel underused. If you’re going to place these people in a film, they should have something to sink their teeth into.

Kazan captures the spirit of the time and set well, but the pacing is dumb – sometimes interminable – and sometimes confusing. It doesn’t seem to have that crackle that Kazan’s previous films had, and perhaps the director recognized this and subsequently retired.

While The Last Tycoon represents Elia Kazan’s last directorial pains, it is also indispensable for featuring the only joint shroud appearance to date of Robert DeNiro and Jack Nicholson.

It’s a valid treat whenever you arrive across a movie like it. As a savor fantasy from South Korea, My Delicate Girl Mari takes a simple narrative and combines it with fresh animation. And the results are incredible. In a minute town that resides by the sea, two friends learn the meaning of friendship as they grow up while occasionally whisking away into a dream-like world inhabited by a mysterious girl. At the same time, the belief of fantasy and reality becomes all the less clearer.

This is a movie that knows how to win its time. Unlike a lot of fast-oriented and action-filled curious movies out there, this one is very peaceful and unexcited throughout, which is quite fitting for a yarn of its type. The animation itself is charming on its hold that you might salvage yourself admiring the sceneries or how the characters disappear most of the time. Everything from the animated yet ragged colors to the abstract detail of the town is impressive. The soundtrack itself also lends a welcome hand to the overall experience.

In a world where animation is often becoming more and more reserved for the squeamishly childish or in some cases the violent-minded, My Lovely Girl Mari is a nice change of lumber to peek an inviting film that shows no tensions and fair allows the viewer to relax while watching it. A surreal though broad work, there’s really nothing else like it.

I have to say I was taken in by the packaging of this film while browsing the anime part in a DVD store. I was originally out to collect some ample anime for my daughter that wasn’t to violent or unfavorable. This film did satisfy those criteria but never brings a favorable space to light.

In the film Nam-woo is coming of age and about to create changes in his life. He is about to open a modern school, and his mom is begining to date a unusual guy since his father died. Then he stumbles into a fantasy world where everything is like a fairytale. He meets Mari there and she talks to him in his head. While there he sees a level-headed relaxing world that he enjoys escaping too, but never really interacts with. By the slay of the film he looses touch with his fantasy world, and moves on with his life.

Well the film really did have potential, but the procedure it was executed made it seem like it was dragging the viewer along to a climax that never comes. For one, Nam-woo keeps going serve and forth to the fantasy world, but dosn’t do anything there. No adventure, no conflict, hardly any interaction with Mari. In his sincere world he always withdraws from people, so we never accumulate to gawk any actual human interaction either. I deem the main spot I was having with the film was the lack of a obvious direction. It should have focused on the fantasy world and set aside Nam-woo there for most of the film, or at least zeroed in on his friends at school and the conflicts and situations they were having. There was one female character who could have provided a decent situation for Nam-woo and his friend, but the director never shows us that path. It wasn’t unprejudiced me having a hard time getting into the film. My daughter lost intrest in it too, which makes it a terrible choice for a child’s film also.

As far as the tech aspects go, ADV is the release company. The disc has the origianl Korean along with an English dubbed language soundtrack. It is also in widescreen.

I could only give the film 2 stars for the animation style which was noble(discounting the characters who wern’t intriguing very intrestingly) and the fantasy world for the ideas and creativity there.

Overall I’d say this a rental film only. It dosn’t have grand replay value to it, and in my book suited animation is only half the battle in making an gripping classic. Fable is the other half, and when you have racy classics out there like Spellbinding Away, Grave of the Fire Flies, and Castle in the Sky, you can’t skimp on the account. There are unbiased to many better choices for viewing out there. This is a expedient prototype film for animation style, now we need the myth to accept up to par. Definately try to rent before buying. And if a parent buying, try to see for something with a quicker race that will intrest your son or daughter.

It’s a rush of the soul as a man goes home in his heart, in this dramatization of the legal sage of Alvin Straight, who drove a lawn mower over three-hundred miles through the set of Iowa and into Wisconsin, to peer his brother, a stroke victim with whom he had not spoken for ten years. “The Straight Yarn,” directed by David Lynch, recounts the record of Alvin (Richard Farnsworth), who state out to glance his brother, Lyle (Harry Dean Stanton), upon hearing of his stroke. Alvin is prevented from driving because of terrible eyesight, and he won’t bewitch a bus because he doesn’t trust another’s driving. A widower who lives with his daughter, Rose (Sissy Spacek), Alvin, not a man of means, resorts to the only design he knows how, to score to Lyle. He needs to attach the terrible blood gradual them before it’s too late; an estrangement born of “exasperate and pride.” Hauling a make-shift trailer, and with three five-gallon cans of gas and a cooler plump of hot dogs, Alvin sets out, alone and positive, on his lawn mower. Now in the twilight of his life, having learned to “separate the wheat from the chaff,” the trail affords Alvin plenty of time to consider on his life, and steels him in his quest to do what he feels he has to do. Along the procedure he befriends and is befriended by the strangers he encounters; a testimony to the bountifulness of the human spirit. When a young man asks him what the worst thing is about being aged, he replies, “Remembering when you were young.” Richard Farnsworth gives the performance of a lifetime as Alvin, this stubborn, prideful man, who has learned humility with age, and you can inspect the wisdom of his years in his eyes. Farnsworth connects with the audience from the beginning, aptly conveying the yearning of a soul in need of atonement, and the determination of the man to attain his amends. Sissy Spacek, also, gives a terrifically nuanced performance as Rose, the “tiring,” daughter who lives daily with demons of her beget. That the members of the Academy failed to nominate her for best-supporting actress for her work here is nothing short of criminal; her Rose is a pretty share of work. David Lynch, as well, has done a great job of bringing Alvin’s epic to the camouflage. He has woven a rich visual and emotional tapestry, all poignantly delivered with a gentle hand. Beautifully photographed, the lush vistas of the Midwest deem Alvin’s position of mind, underscoring the deeper meanings of what is really a spiritual saunter, during which the past mingles with the expose. Lynch has taken a wistful, almost poetic near throughout, which, together with the record is reminiscent of Ingmar Bergman’s “Wild Strawberries.” The scene in which Alvin finally meets up with Lyle is perfectly and touchingly executed, and is one of the most memorable scenes in the movie. The supporting cast includes James Cada (Danny), Everett McGill (Tom), Barbara E. Robertson (Deer Woman), John Farley (Thorvald), and Kevin P. Farley (Harold) . With an artistic hand, Lynch has crafted an unforgettable film. “The Straight Epic” is Alvin’s narrative, but the race belongs to us; a reminder of what is really significant in life, and the needs we all fragment at one time or another. It’s an engrossing movie that will touch you and compose you deem, as well; and as far as I’m concerned, that’s about as splendid as it gets.

With ‘The Straight Story’ David Lynch has weaved together a subtle, racy narrative about age, regret, and family. The epic is of Alvin Straight, a 73 year conventional man who has seen most of what life has to dish out and learns that his brother suffered a stroke. With poor eyes and no license, he sets out on a pace on a riding lawnmower to peer his brother, who he hasn’t spoken to in ten years.

What I loved most about this movie is the simplicity; of the sage, the characters, the filming. Yet within that classic style is a movie that is incredibly enchanting. The stories that Alvin has to bellow about his life are saddening, touching, and almost hideous. He talks about being veteran, about fighting in World War II, and about his regrets of not speaking to his brother. He runs into quite a few people along the intention who succor him out, and their stories contribute to a beautifully crafted script.

Richard Farnsworth is convincing in the role of Alvin. His abilities are most especially outlined in the dusky tone of his suppose, and the sight of regret and hope in his eyes. It is rare that I have grown to respect and cherish a character so grand. David Lynch’s direction is not sunless or creepy like his other works, but carefully and nicely photographed in gargantuan harmony with the script. The cinematography is smoothe, and the extended takes reveal his abilities as a director and the actors abilities as well.

This film is done in a classic manner, and the results are gripping in a rare plot. I sincerely hopes this film eventually gets the recognition it deserves.

It’s mountainous when they package a series of films and this is no exception and that’s why I gave it four stars even though each film itself is of different quality; therefore, I gave my ratings below for each individual film. These were all mostly chilling films and they do what sequels are supposed to do and that is continue a storyline and not preserve repeating the unique. Here is my purchase on each film:

Buy,Download, Or Stream The Complete Omen Collection! Click Here

Omen (1976) ***** – Aloof one of my all time popular films dismay or not. The Academy Award-winning earn by Jerry Goldsmith is unruffled very haunting as is the rest of this film. Time has not altered the effectiveness of this substantial chiller which is enhance by big acting, notably by Greg Peck and Lee Remick, direction and cinematography. Nothing shows age with this film.

Omen (2006) *** – An unnecessary remake, but a decent one all the same with a advantageous cast. It does lack the haunting images and feel of the current and probably a salubrious example of leave well enough alone.

Buy,Download, Or Stream The Complete Omen Collection! Click Here

Omen II (1978) ***1/2 – A well-crafted sequel that cleverly continues the account which is what a sequel should do. Damien is growing up and learning of his heritage, power, and potential future and unexpectedly struggles with this great like any teen-ager growing up. The storyline is very convincingly continued here. It’s not nearly as haunting and chilling as the current, but it does stand well up against it. Obliging acting and an incandescent script assign this film from being a typical sequel. While it is predicatable most of the time, the director keeps things provocative hastily. Agreeable popcorn fun, but with a itsy-bitsy more substance than most of its genre.

Omen III (1981) **** – The world is introduced to Damien, now an adult and seeking world domination through his company and followers, and we as an audience are introduced to a mammoth actor, Sam Neil (Jurassic Park), in his first starring role. I was greatly impressed with this sequel and Neil’s mighty performance filled with chilling charm and menacing arrogance. This film got under my skin more the Omen II, but detached less so than the unique film. My major criticism with this film is the ending which has several VERY long passages to read at the waste in a font and size that is difficult to read. Thank God for the freeze frame function. Live audiences must have went nuts trying to read this in the theater and if they missed it, they’d have to halt to gape it again to read faster. Overall, it was a very effective conclusion to the Omen series.

Omen IV (1991) **1/2 – Hey, didn’t I unprejudiced say conclusion in the last review? Well, sort of. This “sequel” is curious to a degree, but it does what all too many sequels tend to do and that is rehash the new and contradict it as well (worthy like “The Grudge 2″) . This film is one of those it’s so dreadful it’s kind of noble (but not that worthy) . This is an example of Hollywood trying to effect a money-making franchise, but they are modern out of advantageous ideas to continue the storyline. Heck, after killing Satan’s son in Omen III, that kind of closed the door on things –duh! It’s an oddball film that is mildly interesting, but very pale in comparison to the series’ prior efforts.

This whole collection is well worth owning. I can’t imagine any anxiety fans letting this series scurry by them.

Hard to converse from the description here, but per foxhome [dot] com, the dwelling includes:

Disc 1: OMEN (2006)

Disc 2 and 3: THE OMEN COLLECTOR’S EDITION

Disc 4: OMEN II: DAMIEN

Disc 5: OMEN III: THE FINAL CONFLICT

Disc 6: OMEN IV: THE AWAKENING

Any film that can score the family together for a fun, wholesome, and enchanting notion, and believe the interest of all for it’s entire length, gets 5 stars in my book. “Casper” is one of those films. It may not go down as some expansive allotment of cinematic art, but it is one that all generations can devour, will leave you with a smile, and something to talk about with kids afterwards.

Based on the worn droll book stories, “Casper” is a very worthy but very lonely ghost. He lives in an venerable mansion, that has seen better days. He is not alone in this gigantic house though, he lives with his three very rank(but droll) uncles,”Stretch”, “Stinky” and “Fatso”. Casper only wants someone to depart in,so he could have a friend, the uncles on the other hand, do their very best to horror away any visitors.

So when a greedy woman inherits the property, and believes there is a buried esteem inside, she hires an array of ‘ghostbusters’ to rid the house of all spirits. None seem to be able to handle this bad trio, until one day a ghost psychiatrist and his lonely daughter(also looking for a friend),go in and try to tame the threesome. From there it’s a fun and wild hurry, and a touching chronicle of friendship.

The film has a terrific cast that works well with the amazing animation and special effects. Bill Pullman and Christina Ricci are the father and daughter team that encourage these spirits. Cathy Moriarty(“Forget Paris”), and Eric Inactive as her bumbling assistant add their talents as they go for the savor.Lots of huge names are cameoed throughout. Don Novello, and Dan Aykroyd reprise their roles of Father Guido Sarducci, and ghostbuster Dr. Raymond Stantz for brief appearances, fair to name a couple.

The voices including Brad Garrett as “Fatso” are proper, and you can never go sinful when James Horner scores a film with fair the legal touches.

It’s rated PG for some occassional quiet language and thematic elements, and at an hour and a half, it objective the proper length, and is a enjoyable contrivance to expend some laugh out loud family time together.

Who says there are no such things as ghosts? Not if there is the ghostly inhabitants of Whipstaff Manor in Friendship, Maine!
This desolate mansion is then, in the words of one of the members of the Ghostly Trio of Whipstaff, ‘intruded’ by Kat Harvey (Christina Ricci) and her eccentric father Dr. James Harvey (Bill Pullman), a ghost therapist. Carrigan Crittenden (Cathy Moriarty) had hired Dr. Harvey to exorcise the ghosts, including Casper the good ghost and his three inappropriate uncles, Stretch, Fatso and Stinkie, aspiring to come by Whipstaff’s ‘buried gold’.
Intertwining humour, all-time ‘floating’ fun and a original Cinderella account, ‘Casper’ promises to please as a movie which is compelling, hilarious, animated, heart-warming, witty and above all, truly ‘fleshtastic’.
‘Casper’ is recommended for any audience, regardless of age. … ‘Casper’ … manages to appear endearing and ultimately special.
The magic of Bill Pullman, Christina Ricci as well as that of director Brad Silberling, executive producer Steven Spielberg, and other producers weaves between each and every scene to eventually catch us off our feet.
Above all, I Adore THIS MOVIE! Casper is my all time favourite character. Truly fleshtastic. BOOlistic! You won’t BOOlieve it until you leer it.
