Robotech – The Macross Saga 3: Homecoming, contains episodes 13 through 18 of the legendary anime series from the mid 1980s.
For the uninitiated, Robotech was the most approved of the Americanized Japanese anime series to hit American TV waves during the 1970s and 1980s (along with Star Blazers, Voltron, Transor Z, etc.) Known for its cutting edge animation, high tech battle scenes, futuristic weapons (planes, tanks, motorcyles that transform into robots), icy alien invaders, and realistic and compelling storylines, Robotech swept an entire generation and helped achieve Japanese Anime forever on the diagram of American pop culture.
Set in the 21st century, Robotech’s sweeping saga spanned three seasons and weaved together three trusty separate Japanese anime series: Season 1- The Macross Saga, Season 2 – The Robotech Masters (The Southern Faulty in Japan), and Season 3 – The Unusual Generation (Mospeada in Japan) . The basic memoir premise is that the earth became forever changed when a mysterious alien battleship crashed on earth. The people of the world, now incandescent that they are not alone in the universe, slay all wars and unite to understand and assimilate the advanced technology and prepare for the inevitable alien invasion that is certain to arrive. As the narrative unfolds mankind would go on to battle three separate alien races over the next three seasons. The sweeping intergalactic war saga itself though, merely becomes the backdrop of a more deeper “human” saga.

Incidentally, these volumes DO NOT have special DVD features (aside from trailer ads for other anime series coming out on DVD from ADV) . While on its possess this may be considered a crime, not to dismay. If you rob the boxed space collections, each boxed station collection will approach with an “Extra: Elements of Robotechnology” DVD special which will enjoy all the DVD special features you could want: interviews, trailers, commercial spots, specs, etc… So by all means, win the boxed dwelling if you are planning on buying.
I am personally very satisfied that ADV and Harmony Gold have finally released this series on DVD. This is BY FAR one of my common cartoons from childhood. If you’ve never seen Robotech, simply attach YOU MUST. The action and the drama are compelling, clearly showing why Robotech became a pop culture hit. It is the series that forever achieve Japanese anime on the plan in the US. If you did grew up with Robotech, give these a peep again. They’re astronomical for a stagger down memory lane. Honestly, watching these episodes now I can honestly say that they are better than I remember. You can’t lose!!!

As the battle rages on, the fight between the SDF-1 and the Zentradi continues on to Earth. The following episodes include:
Blue Wind: The SDF-1 get a wreck for Earth during battle.

The notorious “magical flying bicylce” line included. Anyway, all the other episodes are extremely ample with an exception for the flash wait on episode, Gloval’s Represent. Overall, another sizable volume, worth every buck.

“Water Horse” is beautifully filmed. It captures the rugged beauty of Scotland amazingly. The soundtrack, by James Newton Howard (of Toto fame and too many soundtracks to name) is ravishing. The music is perfect–as always.

Crossing a epic between an explanation of the fabled Loch Ness Monster with the backdrop of World War II, `Deep Water Horse’ comes across as `Pan’s Labyrinth’ for children. Corpulent of whimsy and brimming with innocence, the movie is a harbor for the imagination.
Taking region in Scotland where the fable of Loch Ness has allegedly been spotted, an elderly man engages a couple at the local pub where he relates a fabled adventure of the past. Transporting us in the legend to 1942, Angus MacMorrow examines some “magical shells” around Loch Ness to procure and recall home. His father has been absent from The War for about a year now. Angus (perfectly cast as Alex Etel of `Millions’ fame) spots one and takes it home to his father’s workshop where he tries to pry through its exterior to come by attractive layers beneath. The scenes when Angus rides and befriends Crusoe are a highlight of the film, and the prankish voyage is filled with nifty special effects. Some of the prance scenes in the harbor and around the house maintain a mischievous spirit to the adventure. Like ‘Stardust’ and ‘Enchanted’ before it, ‘Water Horse’ is an captivating and fun journey. While some of the elements borrow a bit from the classic ‘E.T.,’ this film is novel and transporting enough in its fill good. (Based on the book by Dick King-Smith)

Final Note: The fraction of the Priest in this Canadian production is played by a very young William Shatner, not that you can explain because he is wearing a conceal. Those professors can’t write poetry to set aside their lives. They produce tragedy listless and stuffy. Yeats makes it breathe. And Tyrone Guthrie made tragedy “pop” in this thrilling 1957 production. In tune with Aristotelean requirements, there is a bare stage with a representation of Oedipus’ palace. The actors and chorus members wear masks (very cessation to the spirit of recent masks found by archaeologists), and they chant and go in dance-like cadences. At first, it may seem bizarre, but when you understand that you are being transported 2000 years into the past and watching drama being born out of religious ritual, you can sense the raw power of watching arrogant Oedipus topple into waste. The performances are visceral and perilous, the colors pleasing, the conclude shattering. Freddie Bartholomew….astounding performance! The growing bond between him and Spence….superbly wrought! The heaviness, the heartbreak of the film’s final 15 minutes…..I experience it as if it were actually happening to me every time I peruse it! This is one of those films that I am satisfied to know simply EXISTS…it’s sitting there on the shelf, ready to be experienced any time, and that gives me spacious satisfaction.
The scene of conflict with Tracy and John Carradine….then the wretched but caring bond that develops bewteen Carradine and Freddie Bartholomew approach the ruin…..the reuniting of Freddie with Melvin Douglas….has there ever been a more revealing encounter? The final ceremony scene…..I’ve never been particularly moved by the hymn “Rock of Ages”; now the emotions well up when I even Judge about it.
Why Don’t THEY create movies like this any longer???? ….BECAUSE THEY CAN’T! The world has changed..our values, our ways of viewing and expressing ourselves have become too “sophisticated” and cynical. Oh, Spielberg and others desperately TRY to go encourage to the sincerity and innocence of the age which produced “Captain’s Gallant”….they do a decent job of conjuring, of IMITATING films of the Golden Age…but …well, you simply CANNOT GO Serve.
If you want to experience the Staunch THING—-the proper, impartial, heartfelt emotional experience of a mammoth chronicle…Net THIS FILM.
AND FOR GOD”S SAKE (MGM, Turner…whoever..) Bag IT OUT ON DVD! It’s your RESPONSIBILITY to hold these titanic films using the newest state-of-the-art technology. Have me, when every last “Immense MOMMA’s HOUSE” has been slow and buried as the CRAP that it is, “Captain’s Daring” will live on….and hopefully NOT only as a memory!
I don’t profess to be an experienced movie critic, but this is one of the best movies I’ve ever seen. A fabulous legend of a atrocious rich kid who gets taught some values by a lowly Portugese fisherman. I actually belief, after reading other reviews, that this might push the hammy side of things a bit, but I was disagreeable. The bond that develops between the two characters – slowly at first, and then stronger as the boy Harvey learns gets attached to Manuel and starts developing into a true person – is one of the greatest ‘love’ stories to ever hit the silver conceal. Spencer Tracy won an Oscar for his performance, and Freddie Bartholomew’s performance will recede you to tears.

I level-headed am impressed by the timeless screenplay (based on the Rudyard Kipling recent), the convincing special effects (remember this movie was released in 1937) . The racing scenes and the storm scenes are unexcited completely convincing.
Why this movie has not been restored and out on DVD one will never know. On one viewing it has become one of my all time favorites. It is a sincere gem.

This is a nice release of the Martian Successor Nadesico TV anime series in a compact cardboard box. Unlike most of the ADV thinpak releases, this one actually contains some extras. Included are all 26 episodes from the TV series in english and japanese audio (2.0) and an english subtitle track. In my opion the dubbed version is quite advantageous but the major flaw is that the Ruri character can not compare the its unusual counterpart (some flair of the series is lost) . Extra features include 3 commentary tracks (from some of the english shriek actors/actresses) of selected episodes which are quite droll, character bios, desirable opening/closing and some ADV previews. Apart from the box you collect 6 DVD thincases with nice artwork as veil and a Nadesico flyer (no booklets or other care for stuff) . But regarding the impress no one should complain. I won’t spoil a lot about the series itself except that Nadesico is a recent and shining mixture of different genres (and probably a bit underrated) . Definitely a catch consideration for all those who are into anime and do not have this yet.

This is the original ‘thinpak’ stutter of the common Sci-fi Action-Comedy Anime Nadesico. The ‘thinpak’ series is ADV Films’ (the licensor for this series) plan of giving it’s customers cheaper boxsets of whole series of Anime, the cost being their petite size and usually injurious (if not totally removed) extras compared to the traditional box sets. Typically a gargantuan value nonetheless.
This series focuses on the Nadesico, a highly-advanced space-faring battleship created by a private military company called Nergal for the apparent sole purpose of rescuing colonists on Mars from the threat of an alien hurry known as the “Jovian Lizards”. Being the most advanced share of military equipment man can originate, no ordinary crew can successfully control it, so new individuals from all walks of life are called to be it’s crew.

Unfortunately, these individuals are “modern” in terrible ways as well, consisting mostly of women who have itsy-bitsy to no military experience and personality quirks. Akito Tenkawa is the main focus of the memoir, a Martian-born man who was cessation childhood friends with Yurika (who was also born on Mars) who struggles to understand how he ended up on Earth when his last memories were of him on Mars struggling (and apparently failing) to set aside a young girl from invading Jovian Lizards and staring death in the face himself, as well as his deny awe of the Jovians, and the mystery of the supposed cancel of his parents. He also must struggle with the fact that absence has made the heart grow fonder with Yurika and she will not terminate fawning over him, constantly trying to create him plunge in fancy with her. Akito’s romantic problems compound when other women on the ship start to study him as well.
The series both takes itself seriously and engages in self-parody, never allowing itself to partake too grand in one over the other. The action scenes are usually quite serious, with the valid trouble of people dying in battle. Meanwhile when there are no immediate threats to life and limb, the characters deal with more comic problems on the ship. This is one of those series that actually manages to balance dramatic action and situational comedy.
The animation and artwork is highly detailed and aloof, with many surfaces having shines consistent with a vivid sci-fi setup.
The drawl acting is wonderful in Japanese, spoken by frail Japanese deny actors, though at points the characters will randomly tell partially or even fully in English, sometimes with hilarious results such as an early point in the series where Yurika addresses a broad gathering of military minds completely in English, with a very thick Japanese accent.
The disclose acting in English is more than passable. The scream actors clearly save exertion into their roles, especially Spike Spencer as Akito Tenkawa, easily nailing the feeling of a anime-loving cook constantly thrown in ridiculous situations where his life may be in misfortune. Never the less, despite the concern and salubrious work the actors effect in, some of their voices don’t always seem to fit the characters and the scripts they read from may differ a bit from what was originally said in the Japanese version though thankfully, it never strays too far to the point of ridiculousness.
The subtitled translation of the series is very faithful, apparently updated from previous subtitled translation of the series.
All in all, I highly recommend this series, it makes a mountainous impression and is a immense value with this dwelling.
